hole on piston :(

So its time I utilize my resources, I have a pug 103 that I just burned a pea size hole through the piston on. The timing is very mild, and the hole is not in the crown center of the piston, but near the bottom of the top of the piston right by the decomp plunger. So here is my question? Can an air leak in you head eat a hole through your piston? I dont think its timing, I have it set at stock at this point. and go!

Re: hole on piston :(

I have considered that the hard dense carbon that is like coal coke on the top of a piston could get a burn going on and overheat that part of the crown helping to cause a cave in.

Re: hole on piston :(

very frustrating, naz has a head off his pre water cooled pug that he said I can borrow to test my air leak theory. I have a spare piston cuz I am a parts pack rat, but i would like to not melt holes thought pistons preferably. I mean the speed is totally worth it, don't get me wrong, I just don't think benji enjoys separating kits for me!

Re: hole on piston :(

we had that EXACT same thing happen here on a TSM.

we concluded that the piston was super mega hot from running insane leak due to a confirmed airleak, but the quality oil wasnt letting the piston stick, or it just wasnt hot enough. hit the decomp to kill or start the bike and that blast of cold air nuked the piston.

we welded the hole closed and it was fine 8===>

Re: hole on piston :(

interesting, I had a similar issue of just loosing all my compression out the decomp on a malossi LC. I just welding the head shut and that took care of issue.

Re: hole on piston :(

dah leak = lean

Re: hole on piston :(

hey ,naz, I will try your head.......haha anyway I will try it out and maybe we weld up the one I got for shits and giggles

Re: hole on piston :(

Hmmm, wonder if anyone ever nuked a piston like that with the decomp when trying to get a really solid plug chop?

Re: hole on piston :(

Josh, are you sure it's not just punishment from Jesus due to the fact that you haven't been down here to hang out in almost a year?

Re: hole on piston :(

yeah, that was next on my list of guesses for sure zacky, man I double fail!

Re: hole on piston :(

Might as well try to weld the hole in the piston while you are at it

Re: hole on piston :(

if it's a stock piston, I have an extra one too Josh

Re: hole on piston :(

nope 70cc malossi piston, thanks though I an, your a dear, And I I might see if te hole can be welded shut for shits and giggles

Re: hole on piston :(

What did your plug look like?

Re: hole on piston :(

you can JB weld a hole in a piston i have done it many times it works great

Re: hole on piston :(

That is an amazing statement Jason. Was this on a stock bike and of what type? I am fascinated because with cooling from underneath the crown and a good deposit of carbon on top to insulate this might be possible

Re: hole on piston :(

it was a stock za50

its amazing what JBweld can fix

Re: hole on piston :(

killing and starting your bike does not blow holes in pistons. deck your head, pug heads are OFTEN warped. seal that bitch up tight!!!

Re: hole on piston :(

I think they were saying that their decomps were not sealing right......

Re: hole on piston :(

yeah the head was smoothed out ..
