Lowend??

so i have a free spirit with a za50, 50cc tccd kit, boss pipe, 16mm sha carb. It has 18X45 gears on it. Its tops out at around 40 mph, with me on it 200lbs. And as long as im moving at a decent speed can take most hills. My problem is when im coming from a dead stop up any sort of incline it is a dog. Is this just something im going to have to deal with being that im only running a 50cc kit, or is there something i can do.

Re: Lowend??

u could gear lower or raise your compression. word on the forums is that those kits are for top end racing where you r constantly near the top speed not for stop and go commuting.

Re: Lowend??

crap i forgot to say i also have a high comp head on it. Maybe ill try to sell this kit and get something else. I don't know if i want to gear any lower

Re: Lowend??

Is it a reed valve bike or piston port? Does it have a variator?

For some reason i'm thinking it's the 2 speed puch. Areyou sure your clutches are engagng at proper rpm? You can make the bike accelerate faster by going with lighter cluch shoes on first gear.

Re: Lowend??

Maybe you could switch pipes. I hear the estoril and the circuit pipes have some good low end.

Re: Lowend??

I would tune clutch so it grabs higher rpm. I got a 1 speed puch and with a tuned clutch and 70cc kit, that hauls my 225lb ass around with decent take off. It was complete shit before however until i lightened clutch. With a 2 speed puch, should u already have good lowend with 1st gear from what i read, those 1 speeds are peppy once u get used to non variated 1 speed.

Re: Lowend??

well it is the two speed puch engine, there isnt any adjustment on the clutches like there is on the one speed that i know of. Whats this about lighter clutch shoes. I have thought about switching pipes i have an estoril, i just need to get a new header welded on it.

Re: Lowend??

You're in the same catch 22 I'm caught in.

If I tune my bike (vespa grande) for hills,..........then it's screaming obnoxiously on flat land.

If I tune it to cruise beautifully on flat land,....then it sucks climbing big hills.

I'm loving my moped,......but growing up on motorcycles, the limited nature of my moped is frustrating. With only one speed, you are going to have to sacrifice something,......high end, low end - or a bit of both (which is how I am currently running).

Re: Lowend??

Very typical behavior from that pipe and cylinder combo. Even 120 lb people have low end issues with this. No base gasket or a very thin one will improve it a little and might be enough for a two speed. If the head is hit by the piston just whittle down the squish band with a round file if you don't have a lathe
