Thrashed Airsal Kit Repair.

the pistons pretty fucked one new ring, both move freely again after some dremel work/Sanding

cylinders pretty scored up so nice pits in there too some the size of maybe a grain of rice.

and on top of that the cylinder sleeve has a nice hairline crack.

any tips about the hairline crack? you all prolly think im crazy to attemp to repair it. i was thinking...

whenever i crack a cymbal playing drums, a good method is to drill a hole to stop the crack from well cracking.

i was thinking about doing that and filling it with some JB weld.

i was thinking a hole right there?

hey this is the 2nd time im fixing this kit that's why it looks so bad, it'll run.

basically it didnt sieze, it just melted aluminum over the rings and i lost compression. last time i tried it bolting it up, it didnt make enough compression to run.

Re: Thrashed Airsal Kit Repair.

Cut the cylinder skirt off to the point of the end of the crack staight across like a more open transfer. then match it up on the other side.

Leave the part in the middle so the piston doesnt flop.

Bevel everything and dont leave any jagged edges then hone the living shit outta it.

Dont try to fix it it will just break off and get thrown around the crankcase.

yikes!

Why did this happen? twice?

Re: Thrashed Airsal Kit Repair.

paulvolio is right, just cut that off where the crack is. you don't need to repeat it to the other side to balance it though. enough of the skirt remains so that it will still be balanced enough. ive seen it work fine. those airsals crack there a LOT ive noticed. another option is to find somebody with an aluminum welder and actually weld the crack shut and then grind it down again/open up the case to fit the slight raised alumiwleds after you've filed them down. i dunno, theres a lot of options. good luck dude.

heh. yeah cutting it should be fine. i know no one who Tig welds.

this happend due to heat. lack of oil, i stop running pre-mix, and relied on oil injection alone.

the first time, i was in a bad mood blasted outa town on it , under jetted and not broken in. and i didnt make it outa town.

2nd time riding to boston the day i stopped using the pre mix

this kits better suited for a Puch over a a55.

if i do get it welded should i drill that hole? or avoid that.

holy shit, i need more open transfers anyways!

Re: Thrashed Airsal Kit Repair.

Cut it.

Dont waste a lot of time welding a borderline junk cylinder.

Run it. Use a nice rich premix.

They are powerful kits. I'm putting one on a za50 pretty soon.

Re: Thrashed Airsal Kit Repair.

oh yea, the skirt of mine is cracked and just taken off. Shit happens.

yeah they make a lot of torque, but the transfers are like half the size of the a55 cylinder.

port it? Open your exhaust up.

Re: Thrashed Airsal Kit Repair.

exhaust is plenty big the transfers of A55 cylinder and case are huge. like metra kit big port huge.

Re: Thrashed Airsal Kit Repair.

If it's worth anything, my cousin is going to college for welding. He's one semester away from graduating with an Ass. degree. He's welded aluminum before and got good grades doing it. If you want it welded and don't know anyone who can do it, my cousin can. I don't know what price you'd be looking at shipping both ways, it probably would be better to just buy another kit, but I'm sure he'd do it for free.
