30-35

I just put a bi turbo exhaust on my maxi 2 (za 50). It still only runs about 27mph. I would like to get to 30-35... Can I do this with a carb and no kit?

If so what carb would you suggest?

Re: 30-35

it should be going 30-35 with just the pipe. Something is not right.

Re: 30-35

Did you upjet?

Re: 30-35

He could have one of the sweet 1hp's that suck. Take off your carb and intake. If it's got a 10mm round intake hole that looks like there is a metal sleeve in it, you have a 1hp...

Re: 30-35

no its a 2 hp

Re: 30-35

you are probably running a stock air filter?

either get a high flow one, or pop it off, open it, and take the round silver filter out. then just upjet.

Re: 30-35

im sure this in the wiki but how do you up jet.

this is

Re: 30-35

okay i went for a ride with the air cleaner off and it got faster so were in the right direction. now my next question is what to upjet to how big should i go and can i do it myself with a drill

Re: 30-35

Ive used torch tip cleaners

I actually solder the jet shut & redrill

Ive put a piece of .026 welding wire into my 3/8 drill & drilled the hole & re worked my way out to where I want it

they sell jet drill kits on jegs & summit

with a torch tip cleaner Id find the one that fits tightly before the file area & then push teh file area through in & out till the file area is not hard to move through & take it out for a ride this is probably like .003 or .002

take care

Re: 30-35

or you could order another jet from treats and not have to dick with any of that.

Re: 30-35

"Upjet":http://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/Upjet

It would help if we knew what size jet you had in there right now. If you had, say a 60, I would say get a 62, 64, and 66. Or heck, while you're buying jets, get a 68 (maybe a 70 too). When you put a performance exhaust on, you will need to upjet unless you were running really rich to begin with. Also, cold weather will make you run leaner, which should also make you need to upjet. (Cold weather = leaner = upjet, warm weather = richer = dowjet).

I would also recommend just buying jets from Treats -- I mean, yeah, you COULD drill it, but it's so much easier to buy the pre-numbered sizes, especially if you aren't sure what size you need.

To check/change the jet, you have to take the float bowl off. But if you're already in there anyway, you might as well clean your carb while you're at it (it builds character). There are videos that will show you how to do this here. break>

Oh, and if you do take off your carb, don't forget to check for air leaks once you put it back on.

Good luck!

Re: 30-35

okay how am i gonna find out what size my jet is

Re: 30-35

You have to take your carb apart and look at the number stamped in the jet. That number is what size you have. The videos I linked earlier will show you how to take your carb off, disassemble it, clean it, reassemble it, and reattach it to your moped. Also, this might help:

Re: 30-35

If you keep a stock air box you need to DOWNJET. If he took off the air filter and it went faster that means his bike needs more air. Either run an open air box or a hi flow filter then jet accordingly.
