alright, so i picked up a moby for 50 bucks yesterday. last night i tore the entire thing apart, cleaned the frame. the motor is fried; seized crank, worn and rusty inside. the frame is in incredible shape though, the rims are also pretty shiny.
mopeds are pretty rare in manitoba. so any moped i find i think its worth it to have back on the road by restoring it, regardless of shape. i think this moby is by far my biggest project yet. in pieces when i picked it up.
motobecanes are the most common moped to find in this area. every motobecane i've had or ridden besides cady's have been incredibly fast. close to 35-40mph tops. even my friends 40t with dimoby clutch was really fast. i think only the fast model was imported in to canada. plus they all have the white square headlights. these are incredibly shitty and burn out bulbs constantly. they took obscure hard to find bulbs. every moby ive seen or had didnt have working lights. in order to get a completely different headlight, i would need to modify the forks with headlight ears.
im wondering what parts i can all use from my av7 if i were to buy treats budget av10 case. cylinder studs? magneto? mounting spring? crank?... im not planning to go heavy on the tuning. something cheap, stockish, and reliable as possible. i plan to sell it to a friend this spring, so i still want it to have some juice.
pictures to come whenever someone borrows me a camera.
