mobyyyy project... av10 questions

roadent$ craig /

alright, so i picked up a moby for 50 bucks yesterday. last night i tore the entire thing apart, cleaned the frame. the motor is fried; seized crank, worn and rusty inside. the frame is in incredible shape though, the rims are also pretty shiny.

mopeds are pretty rare in manitoba. so any moped i find i think its worth it to have back on the road by restoring it, regardless of shape. i think this moby is by far my biggest project yet. in pieces when i picked it up.

motobecanes are the most common moped to find in this area. every motobecane i've had or ridden besides cady's have been incredibly fast. close to 35-40mph tops. even my friends 40t with dimoby clutch was really fast. i think only the fast model was imported in to canada. plus they all have the white square headlights. these are incredibly shitty and burn out bulbs constantly. they took obscure hard to find bulbs. every moby ive seen or had didnt have working lights. in order to get a completely different headlight, i would need to modify the forks with headlight ears.

im wondering what parts i can all use from my av7 if i were to buy treats budget av10 case. cylinder studs? magneto? mounting spring? crank?... im not planning to go heavy on the tuning. something cheap, stockish, and reliable as possible. i plan to sell it to a friend this spring, so i still want it to have some juice.

pictures to come whenever someone borrows me a camera.

Re: mobyyyy project... av10 questions

You need the AV10 crank, crank case, reeds, intake, head, gasket set, cylinder, spring bracket, I have all of these. Someone will buy the old head and crankcase. I would ask davey pierce what else as he did one like you want to

can i use most of the old case bolts an cylinder studs? where i can find a spring bracket?

also, any word the sito cobra pipe? ive never seen it discussed here.

Re: mobyyyy project... av10 questions

I have that pipe in stock, I think you can use the studs but why? The crakncase I have came with new ones. Not trying to take anything away from treats as they are good. I have not run this pipe but have a couple here

where is here, at quarter kick? how much? i guess im looking for a variator too.. id probably want to go with a stock 2 ball just to cut down on costsssss.

do not buy that pipe. It is stock or worse.

Re: mobyyyy project... av10 questions

that pipe sucks, the Av7 bolts wont work, the studs will, so will the stator plate, flywheel and clutch. AV7 and AV10 cranks are interchangeable. you'll have to go to ebay.fr to get a spring bracket unless you get a doppler spring mount or get creative and make your own.

but why would you want to do any of this when you're just going to flip it in the spring? why not just build an AV7 for it instead??

im thinking about it. theres some random dude just outside the city i know that has a av7 with a variator in pretty good shape. im waiting for a reply back from him. if i get that ill probably do a av7 build. if not im building a av10. its something different and will have a little more power and makes it easier to upgrade. ill be selling it to a friend and i would want a friend to have an awesome moped. im trying to get things rolling up here ,pun intended

Re: mobyyyy project... av10 questions

It's NOT WORTH the money building up an av10 if you plan on selling it. No way dude. Just find a new running motor.

finding a new running motor is hard...

im looking at buying a complete av10 off ebay.fr might be just as much as getting one from the states.

Re: mobyyyy project... av10 questions

Finding a running av10 motor off of ebay.fr is just as challenging! Frenchmen can be some shady SOB's. There are people who have stock av7 cylinders just collecting dust. Make a post in the buy/sell forum about it. I'd help you out but none of my av7 cylinders have good exhaust threading.

Re: mobyyyy project... av10 questions

dont but an av10 off of ebay.fr, totally pointless. the time you spend looking for it, plus the cost of the engine and shipping will be pointless. plus finny is right, frenchies get sketchy. most dont take paypal either.

send me a list of what you want. ffreddie and i can put together what you need.

also, read this thread its pretty much a step by clumsy step of my av10 build. lots of good info in there.

also, there was another one that i couldnt find right away that i learned a bunch from.

good luck.

Re: mobyyyy project... av10 questions

davey when you stop by you can pick out what you need. I might be getting some long seats for them also.

"Here":http://www.mopedarmy.com/forums/discuss/7/55155/55155/ is a thread I learned a lot about the av10 motor. Back in the day it was a lot easier to search for info on it and actually find good results.

Seriously, take my first hand advice, it is not work trying to build an av10 unless you are serious about it! That moby in my profile? It's sick now but reliability is not on it's side and my wallet is a lot lighter as a result.

Re: mobyyyy project... av10 questions

Ebay.fr is totally worth it I got a av10 with a bidalot kit, CDI and an er3 for only $210 shipped of course $80 was shipping but still a damn good deal.

Re: mobyyyy project... av10 questions

really? damn, thats aweome.

theres a av10 im looking at getting on ebay.fr right now. just the bottom end with stock cdi and stock variator. going for 10 euros right now with 1 bid and 20 hours to go. these things go for cheap. its the shipping that sucks... 75 euros for shipping.. if i were to get it, i would get that cheap 50cc airsal kit from treats.
