High flow air filters

I was wondering if anyone knew of any filters (Uni or K&N) that would fit on a 15.15 SHA carb? I took of the black plastic bell that covers the carb and that outside measures 2.25 inches which seem way to big for any after market filter, but I was just wondering? I guess I could always drill some more holes in the plastic cover.

Re: High flow air filters

Leave the black plastic on there, the internal filter and flow are fine.

yes. the pones with 2 1/4 inner diameter. Just go to a moto shop and ask for one. if they dont have it theyll order it.

2.25 way to big? what the hell?

The 78 batavus starflite thread rolling around here has a pic of my UNI filter part number UP4200 on it. It is technically 2 inch diameter opening but it's very stretchy. My carb opening is 2.15" and it fits really easily, so you would probably be fine using it.

Re: High flow air filters

i heard of taking out the metal filter and wrapping the plastic part in pantyhose after drilling the plastic a little. dunno if it works. i drilled 3 holes in my plastic part just above the slots on the bottom. worked pretty good. can't tell if its my imagination or not. but i think what juggernaught said is probably right. the airflow is fine as is. i mean there isn't much to it already.

Re: High flow air filters

well i am eating my hat... took out the metal filter, wrapped the plastic cover in a pantyhose foot, tied it off, put the cover back on and i have been riding happy. no bogs no problems. the pantyhose apparently works.

Re: High flow air filters

im planning on running this same carb on my pug 103. it hits the frame if i leave the plastic airbox on so i was planning on removing it and just running the metal cover. is that a bad idea? several of the cats on the performance tuning spreadsheets seemed to have done the same thing.

Re: High flow air filters

I always use panty hose for my carbs. I just don't like buying it.

Re: High flow air filters

I'm not sure how much flow my dellorto is getting when my bike is going full tilt. I flipped the plastic piece so the holes are facing the top of the bike, and it seems to catch a little better. I still want to drill some holes in it and see what happens.

lame backwards facing carbs.

Re: High flow air filters

the filters on there suck, go with the panty hose.

Re: High flow air filters

would it be a good idea ya think to oil the panty hoes before putting them in place?

Re: High flow air filters

Kyle,

Just wear the panty hose around for about 3 days without showering. Your legs will naturally oil the hose and you will get a better quality, all natural oil for your filter.

Re: High flow air filters

Cool, this is a good excuse to wear shorts
