God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

So I attempted stage one of my 50cc wheelie monster peugeot engine.

I bought a 50cc Malossi Kit from treats and broke down a spare motor into cases. I bought a rotary tool, some tungsten carbide dremel bits and went to town on my first case matching job.

Purposed cutting in black.

I then went to town and my nice bit crapped out half way though the job, then I discovered THESE!

<a href="http://imageshack.us"><img src="http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/183/hpim0612ax5.jpg"; border="0" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/></a><br/><a href="http://g.imageshack.us/img521/hpim0612ax5.jpg/1/"><img src="http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/hpim0612ax5.jpg/1/w640.png"; border="0"></a>

God D*mn it!

I don't know if that makes these cases trash or what.....

I'm going to buy another bit and start the transfer ports tomorrow.

will these bubbles mess me up?

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

dont wory about those buble holes

you can fil them wth RTV under the gasket or even JBweld & file it down

no wories man

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

You could fill them in with aluminum weld, JB Weld, or some type of epoxy, or you could just go bigger and hope you get to the bottom of them before you hit the edge of your cases. Unless those bubbles connect somehow to a bolt hole or some other way they could lose pressure, I don't think you'll have too much trouble. When I hit the bolt hole case matching my kit, people told me just to put some yamabond or whatever down the hole when I put the stud through, and call it good.

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

just chiming in to say i can't wait to see your full build this looks just the like the project i want to do sometime down the line.

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

how did you make the marker where your transfers were on the case in order to match them? or did you just eyeball it

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

generally you will cut the gasket when one side is done & then use the gasket to transfer to the other mating piece thus the term "gasket matching"

I dont know what he did though

BTW nice work on the prting dude :-)

have a great week

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

thanks guys,

so in the kit from treats was a whole bunch of different thicknesses of base gaskets matched to the kit.

so I tossed in the studs, laid one of the gaskets down and markered it up.

I'm going to cut the transfer ports today, but I need a new bit. I'm going to go to home depot, any reccomendations?

I used this bit for the bulk of this, then used a wire wheel to clean it up.

http://www.tylertool.com/dremel64.html

but this bit is worthless now, totally stripped on the point and along the side, like 20 minutes of work until it was kaput.....

What's better?

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

i cant believe that bit crapped out. i've used that same bit for soo much and its a little dull now but not useless. i also use this one:

its a 9910. it helps clean up some of the scuffing you might end up with when trying to match those curves up at the bottom of the transfers.

I'll pick up the 9910 today, I tried to take a pic of the but I used, but it's hard to macro something so small.

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

yeah iron/steel porting burrs plug up quick on aluminum if you run the grinder at high speed

slow down a bit

you can clean the aluminum out with a pick tool or something

on aluminum cylinder heads (cars) I use aluminum specific porting burrs & cartridge rolls to make quick work as you are dong like 16 ports sorta on a 16 valve plus the pocket work

anyway good lick & nice work

take care

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

rather than going straight in after with the wire wheel you might wanna smooth everything out with a file or some abrasive paper...the wire wheel will shine it up nicely but do nothing to smooth the little ridges and lumps out. just my thoughts.

the transfer ports on that thing are huge also, looks like its gonna be a lot of fun!

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

you need to be using oil when dremeling or your nice expensive bits will gum up with aluminum is seconds. dust have a little container of ANY oil next to you while you dremel, and dip the bit in it every so often. don't work to hard in one placed at once, or it will get to hot and gum up your bit. we have used the same one at the shop for almost a month now!!!!! tungsten carbide is the way to go. just treat it nicely.

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

just not dust

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

thanks guys I'll oil it up and take it easy on round II.

I'll try to post some pics tonight.

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

There are high speed aluminum cuters for dremels. Theres a couple different ones at home depot. I use those for cases ane the same bit you used for steel.

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

you better run the 4 petal or i will stab you

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

I had the same thing happen on some e50 cases. I just filled with JB Weld, let it dry, and then sanded it down with fine grit paper. It has held fine all summer/fall.

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

yeah, either jb weld, or that stick plumbers putty epoxy, that stuff works really well too. be sure to get some rubbing alcohol (or mineral spirits-better) and scrub the region really well before doing it though, oil sticks to metal under epoxy and will compromise the bond.

Re: God D*mn Bubbles in Peugeot CASES!

John Joedicke /

Use varsol or mineral spirits when working with aluminium.
