which kit is better to throw?

which kit would be faster treats "for the people 70 kit" or a metra 65? this would be going on a maxi with a 16 sha and proma gp. is the port clean up absoulutly crucial? how do you champher ports its just a little bit of filing right?

metra 64 for cast iron awesomeness = reliable.

Speed is entirely dependent on your tuning abilities. Metra 65 kits can easily hit 50+ if you know what you are doing.

Re: which kit is better to throw?

so which one is quicker from out of the box i know how to jet and plug chop never done any porting.

Re: which kit is better to throw?

how far do you want to throw it?

Re: which kit is better to throw?

go slide down a hill yha fish moving vehicle,,,seriously which one?

Re: which kit is better to throw?

Metrakit.

Re: which kit is better to throw?

so metrakit is faster? or just more reliable?

Re: which kit is better to throw?

Re: which kit is better to throw?

^Look at this pic^

I had the exact same setup on a Pinto with the E50. Yes, I bashed a dent in the frame to get the carb to fit. Stop yelling at me.

The Metra 65 is a great kit. I saw somewhere on here that the metrakit is a "touring" kit, and I've found it to be very reliable.

It also has pretty big ports, so the 16mm carb and Proma GP pipe seem too small for this kit. The 16mm manifold in the picture has a pretty small area at the bend, which is one of the bottle-necks. The other is the case-matching for the transfer ports. I'd suggest the case matching, especially if you go with a bigger exhaust pipe, intake, and carb in the future.

With this setup, I had about 25MPH up a steep hill, 35 up a slight hill, and about 40-42 on flat. I know the front sprocket is 18t, and I think the rear is 40t... on an E50. Also with that setup, the powerband seemed to be around 25MPH, and pretty impressive.

The E50 has plenty of aluminum to grind away, so go for it.

If you don't have the carb and the pipe yet, and you're going for more speed than that, I'd go bigger on both.

The intake port on the Metra 65 is about 19-20mm, and it could use some cleaning up. The exhaust port is about 26mm, which is larger than the Proma GP, although I'm not sure by how much.

yep you chamfer the ports. I did mine with a dremel.

the polini cylinder is aluminum and pretty light weight, you could probably chuck it decently far.

i should say you should check out posts of other people who matched their ports. if you want to get the most of out your kit, match the ports.

Re: which kit is better to throw?

I would get the cheaper, "for the people" kit if you are gonna throw it (the impact could damage the cylinder). On a more serious note, get the Metra. If you are going to go to the trouble of installing a kit, do it right and make it last. The Metrakit is fast considering how reliable it is. If you are gonna bolt it on, get the shitty kit. I run it on a maxi and just gps'd it at 53 (that's feels fast as fuck on a maxi).
