Lap the head with some Grinding compound on a sheet of glass to make sure it's flush. Use a good head gasket. Also make sure you have removed all of the old gasket or any other shit on the engine cases where the base gasket seals... Sounds like you know the drill on tightening the nuts on the head... By star you mean x right? I usually just count my turns until they are all snug. Then bust out the torque wrench and do the same thing until it hits 10 foot pounds...
