air leaks suck help

Help me

I am putting a 70cc kstar on my puch and I cant get it to stop having air leaks so I have

A 77 puch with 425 mil on the motor

A 70 cc kstar new

A 70 cc head new

All new gaskets

And it is leaking from the base of the kit and the head

I am using a torque wrench going from 3 to 5 to 10 in a star pattern

Thank you

Re: air leaks suck help

Lap the head with some Grinding compound on a sheet of glass to make sure it's flush. Use a good head gasket. Also make sure you have removed all of the old gasket or any other shit on the engine cases where the base gasket seals... Sounds like you know the drill on tightening the nuts on the head... By star you mean x right? I usually just count my turns until they are all snug. Then bust out the torque wrench and do the same thing until it hits 10 foot pounds...

Re: air leaks suck help

thank you i did mean x what do you mean lap the head

Re: air leaks suck help

You buy some valve grinding compound at the automotive store... Then you take the glass from a picture frame and lay it flat on a table.... Then you squeeze out the valve grinding compound on the side of your head that mates to your cylinder. Place the head flat on the glass and in a figure 8 motion, run it with steady pressure. That valve grinding compound and the ultra flat glass will work out any uneven spots on the mating surface. When you are done obviously clean it up really good. That valve grinding compound can't get into your cylinder bore... :)

Are you using the head gasket that came with the kit?

Re: air leaks suck help

I assume that you are staking some base gaskets since you are runnign this kit right? I would put some RTV or gasket sealer on each one to make sure there is no leakage in between them or where it meets the cylinder or engine cases...

I've been working on an intake leak for two days and tried everything. I feel your pain.

Re: air leaks suck help

Interesting. Is this a common problem with the cheaper kits? Hes tried all kinds of gaskets and ended up cutting some really thick ones for the base gasket. Like 1mm thick. Seems to be the only way to get the piston to clear the head. As far as the head gasket hes using the one it came with. Aluminum. Thanks for the help.

Re: air leaks suck help

Some kits are actually made for different bikes with a shorter stroke. You just have to stack the base gaskets and they work perfectly. It's pretty common I think. I haven't owned a kit yet that required this personally, but see it a lot lately...

Re: air leaks suck help

Lapping the head is always a good idea because most kits aren't cast perfectly... Especially the cheaper kits..

Re: air leaks suck help

i am runing a 2mm base do you think i need to lap the top of the kit thank you

Re: air leaks suck help

RTV it. i swear by RTV red sealer. get it and glop it on hardcore over your base and intake sides and run it. its the greatest stuff out there.

Re: air leaks suck help

i will try rtv again and let you know if it works

Re: air leaks suck help

You are lapping it not to raise compression by decreasing the volume, you are doing it to make it flat... Just do it up. RTV also helps although I think it's gross and messy.

Re: air leaks suck help

you have had to lap new heads before

Re: air leaks suck help

i always do... definitely if the shit is leaking though...

Re: air leaks suck help

ultra copper is by far the best RTV sealant.

Re: air leaks suck help

🇮🇹💦 Of the Loin /

water leaks suck worse.

can i use any of those sealants on head gaskets??
