What does a jet really do.

What does a jet do. Like when people say 56 57 58 jet. Oh and i have a tomos and i'm only fifteen

Re: What does a jet really do.

The jet determines the amount of fuel entering the carburetor, either from the fuel line (Batavus Encawri carbs) or a float bowl (Bing, Dellorto, etc.) Adjusting the jet size changes the fuel/air ratio. Choosing the right jet is _the_ most important part of maintaining a moped.

Re: What does a jet really do.

Jets are small brass screws with a hole in them. They control how much fuel enters the engine. They are numbered based on how big the hole is (and how much fuel flows through them). When you modify the engine for more power you increase the amount of air moving through it thus you have to increase the amount of fuel (to keep a balanced air/fuel ratio).

Hey, at least he's not from New Jersey.

Re: What does a jet really do.

most 15 year olds are about the same just about any where in the US (this rule has tons of exceptions).

Re: What does a jet really do.

Hey guys, he just wants to understand his moped. Help him along!

Re: What does a jet really do.

a jet is what propels air planes and rockets.

Re: What does a jet really do.

no really the jet is like a little funnel that lets a certain amount of gas through into your carburetor throat and from there into the engine. the higher the number, the more gas. with your proma pipe you might want to step it up a few jets.

you just use regular dellorto jets for your tomos. I'm not sure what the stock one is, but i'm sure somebody else does. you need to remove the carburetor to get the jet, or at least rotate it sideways on the intake. remove the bowl on the bottom of the carburetor and unscrew the little brass thingy that looks like a bolt head with a teensy hole in the middle. you may want to clean your entire carburetor as well.

in order to tell if you should change your jet pull your spark plug out and get a few new ones. all you need to do at first is put in the new spark plug and ride your bike at full throttle for a few blocks and then back home doing the same thing. kill the bike and pull out the plug when you get home and check to see what color it is. it should look "toasted" medium brown, not black, and not light brown or white. if it's too light you need to upjet(put in a larger jet). i'm sure with your pipe you will not be running too lean.

does anybody know the right sparkplug for his bike?
