motobecane carb upgrade options

I'm looking to upgrade to a 15mm dellorto on the blue moby model 7. There isn't much out there on this bike, so before I leap I'm going to pick all your sage brains. I'm having a hard time finding the ideal carb (which I think is a Dellorto PHBG with the cable choke and rubber gasket connection). I've attached a pdf with the five options I can find in that size. I'm leaning toward options 1, 2, or 3, but here they are with pro's and con's as I see them (pricing is from Treats):

1. PHBG 15mm AS: the good; three jets, mixture screw, lots of tuning options. not a clamp-on. the bad; this is a pull choke (but i never really use my choke), so it wouldn't be accessible under my side covers, plus this is a $95 carb....

2. PHBG 15mm BS: the good; three jets, mixture screw, lots of tuning options. not a clamp-on, and this is a cable choke. plus it's only $70. the bad; this is a racing choke with no apparent way to mount an air filter....

3. CLONE 15mm SHA: the good; this is a copy of the dellorto 15mm SHA with the mixture screw added- better tuning. it's cable choke. plus, this is cheap as hell, only $55 and it comes with the 19mm shim (which i think i'll need) and the filter assembly. the bad; this is a copy, and a clamp on carb.

4. 15mm SHA cable choke: the good; this is the dellorto 15mm SHA, it's only $66, it's for the 19mm OD (which i think i'll need), and has the filter assembly. it's a cable choke setup. the bad; this is a clamp on carb, and has no mixture screw - few tuning options.

5. 15mm SHA: the good; this is the dellorto 15mm SHA, and has the filter assembly. the bad; this is a clamp on carb, and has no mixture screw, is for the 18mm OD intake (I think this is for Tomos bikes) and it's a push choke. This one doesn't even look like it's worth considering for my setup.

Re: motobecane carb upgrade options

this will slap right on an AV7 bendy intake. doesn't use stock dellorto jets, but for 20 bucks it might be worth your time to learn how to solder and drill jets. i've put a couple on 50v's and they really work well.

Re: motobecane carb upgrade options

Check out Dellorto Direct. Assuming you decide what you want (spigot/clamp, choke style, etc), they should have it in stock.... http://www.dellortodirect.com/

Re: motobecane carb upgrade options

Ben, thanks for the link. I was not aware of that....

Graham, which one are you thinking of? Do you know whether the AV7 intake on the model 7 is different from the one of the model 50 (haven't had an opportunity to compare)?

Re: motobecane carb upgrade options

I've used the 15 SHA clone for pocket bikes (without the mixture screw) on couple 50V's w/the bendy intake. Pretty straight forward, just needs to be tilted a bit to clear the frame at full variation. They are kind of fragile (shitty metal) but they can be had for around $20. So far they have all ran and idled better then w/the Grutner.

Re: motobecane carb upgrade options

i guess i'd prefer a more robust construction than the clone souds like it has.. a lot of people seem to feel that unless i'm planning to kit it i don't need the tuning options that aren't offered on the 15mm SHA, but i hate the clamp on of the gurtner. has anyone converted a clampon to a more secure connection (that AV7 moves SO much on the spring mount)? if so, how?
