Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie out

So I'm completely at a loss for what I should order.

I've read some stuff about different types of expansion chambers on pipes, and looked at many different pipes, but still have no idea how to get a good feel for the powerband by looking at them.

I'm pretty much dead set on ordering one of the new pipes from Treats. I love the rough look, and they look to be wonderfully crafted.

What I need from you experts is some advice on which one would be most suitable for low end and mid range. I'm running stock displacement for now. I'm thinking the first one here, but I'm not sure.

Is anyone able to point me in the right direction with these pipes just by looking at the shape of them? Thanks!

Pipe #1

Pipe #2

Pipe #3

Pipe #4

Thanks for any help dudes!

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

I think the 1st one looks the best constructed.

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

these pipes are really new to everyone, but i think theyre all designed more for kitted setups than stock cylinders.

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

What is your setup?

All those pipes are new territory... Even Treats doesn't know what is what.

All I know is I have seen pics of bikes with the last one and it stickes wayyyy up!

#1 looks like a nice pipe though, for a modded stock bike....

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

i've seen the zen pipe #1 run very well at red october on johns baretta.

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

yo stacy!

i just ordered the first one for the polini 75cc kit haha! ill let you know how it runs.

ps: the kit is AMAZING haha :D

I run a Puch Techno Estoril on my 75cc Polini V1.

I'd love to know more about these pipes as I've been looking to do some modding... Pedal clearance is a concern... but I want more top end.

anywhoo, post results of your findings with these new pipes!

I think most of these are high RPM pipes.

The last one is similar to the Grand Prix pipe sold by Federico.

My guess is to stick with one of the first two unless you live somewhere where gnarly hills are non-existent.

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

I run the tomos estoril pipe and it is great! Pulls like a MOFO up to 53.1mph. Im going to pop out the restrictor and see how it does, the slap on a one of my hand made pipes with the simonin dimensions....

Well, I live in the praries. No hills AT ALL.

I want low end purely because it makes it a lot safer driving with all the 4 wheeled retards on the road here, and that's where the most fun is for me in terms of speed. I'm not too concerned about top speed, cause that's just a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

ANYWHO. Yeah, I think I might go with the Zen pipe. I've been also pondering the tecno estoril made by DMP...did you have any issues with pedal clearance with an estoril on a minarelli?

And great to hear your kit rips :)

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

no issues, but I used the tomos one

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

stacy, ive ridden a few minarelli's with the estroil pipe and they are really nice all around. they were the tomos version and the header had to be slightly modded to fit good. no pedal issues. that may be a good option for you, but ill let you know how the zen works out.

If you want silly low end, buy this pipe...

WARNING! Without the silencer, it's going to be dirt-bike loud (better for cars to hear you IMHO).

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

$60 tecno boss from treats on my polini 75cc v1. rips all the way through the midrange with a top in the 55 range. best deal for a great pipe. you'll have to weld a new header..

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

Hex Inverter /

Problem with that is that it comes out the left side, as well as the fact that it needs welding.

I'm really turned on by the idea of having a pipe made for my bike. I think I'm going to go with the ZEN, so tell me how yours works out, Providence...

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

#4 looks a lot like the Jolly moto. i bet it rips!! wish I had the money!!

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

hey stacy i got the zen in yesterday and im gonna try it on my bike today (if the weather allows me too...i hate the rain). the quality is super nice and it looks PERFECT for a 50cc or for those who want a reliable/torquey/not-super-fast kitted bike. ill take some pictures too!

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

my zen minarelli pipe just came on today.. 2 hours ago actually. havent even been able to open the box yet (in classes all day!).

derek, lemme know if you encounter any problems attaching it. i'll be bringing mine up to handy bikes and seeing if they'll put it on while my bike is being serviced...

im giddy with excitement :)

Yes, do post a picture!

Let us know how it goes. I'm especially anxious to see how the thing bolts up and looks on the frame. It seems really stocky in comparison to the long pipes I'm used to seeing.

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

hey stacy, i have some pictures but i cant post them now.

the pipe mounts nice, pedals are still good (i had to modify the stock bracket a bit). i also had to grind the welds down a very little bit at the header flange bc the nuts wouldnt fit. it sounds awesome! its kinda loud and has a similar sound to an estoril, but a little less 'metallic' if you will.

now for the pipes performance...INSANE torque haha its amazing. it seriously puts all the balls down low. my acceleration is nuts! ill let you know how the top end is later with the pictures...its was really misty/muggy/rainy when i tried this last night so maybe that had something to do with it not performing as good as i hoped it would in the higher rpms. obviously with more torque youll have less top speed, but i thought itd be a little better up top. if i base everything on last night, my biturbo has more top end than this pipe (im telling you its torquey), but who knows, with some better weather and tuning it might have similar up top power. tonight seems clear, so i ride!

ill keep you posted.

derek

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

I got the original ZEN from Benji. And ya, it's torque torque torque. My set up is basically 75cc Polini, 21mm Del, 20mm intake (making a better one), ZEN (pipe #1). I opened up intake and exhaust ports on the kit but have not case matched or modded the transfers (winter project). With stock gearing 10-42 the zen was INSANE off the line. It pulled like variated bike all the way through the power band. However it topped out pretty quick and I'd say i was 43-45mph max. Great for Chicago though. I re-geared to 10-31 a few weeks ago and the low end decreased significantly but it still totally fine for city riding. I GPS'd it at 52+mph and I'm sure it's got more but I'm lazy and haven't totally dialed in my carb.

Conclusion being it's a great low-mid pipe and somewhat limited on the top. Which is fine for me because I'm a pussy and 50+ on a moped is plenty for where I ride. The construction is amazing! It mounts perfectly and sounds fucking amazing.

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

I should also mention it hangs really low so watch out for curbs and shit. Ive got a few dings and scratches on mine from smashing into stuff... and from flying over the bars making left a few weeks ago. Bike hit pipe first. Yay me.

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

I have the #1 ZEN from benji, and I lost a little bit of torque on takeoff but gained a whole hellof a lot of top speed. I had my stock setup tweaked to a 12 front though. It is by far the best fitting minarelli pipe I've ever put on, I didn't have to dremel at all for it, pedals clear, it just needs a bracket hookup. It was even easier than a pipe intended for the V1, that v1 pipe melted my plastic shroud and made a mess.

It's easy and good and looks awesome. Well, it's a bit soft/round looking for my very hard square Concord Shadow but the color and quality is awesome.

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

here you go :D

Well it's settled. ZEN here I come!

Man that thing looks sexy.

Sounds like it's exactly what I'm looking for!

Thanks for the review guys :P

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

haha so...

i did quite a bit of riding tonight with the zen and let me tell you....its amazing! haha it just has so much balls and still creeps up top. my acceleration is bananas. however, it could also be the sweet 16mm phbg and my kit breaking in :)

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

Looks cool. I would definitely shorten the header and tuck it closer to the frame...rad

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

Yea as Mike points out shortening the header would give you more top end in case you end up desirous of speed

Re: Minarelli V1 Pipe Comparison - Help a noobie o

the zen looks a lot like this angled leo vinci for the v1 i got a while ago from italy angelo. super low end added to a variated bike was crazy. beatin cars off the line but only topping out at 46 with a polinid 16sha.

john how low are you jetted on yr zen pipe?

human bean, why did you have to reweld your boss? i thought those bolted on just fine. what hits the frame?
