Adding material to a case

Hey guys. Ive always had airleak problems on my 80metra (smallport)'d e50. Even the smallports are fucking huge and i also heard that Chris Paz adds material on the smallports he builds. So im thinking about adding some material to get a better seal. So what can i use to add material other than a TIG welder or JB weld? what about that aluminum putty shit? or is that pretty much just like jb weld?

thanks doods.

Re: Adding material to a case

yeah on the case. you need an aluminum welder. althrough ive honestly heard peeopl using jbweld with successful longterm results. but i dunno. aluminum welder for sure though. just add material to the transfer sides and then flatten it out.

Re: Adding material to a case

you can use a mig welder with the right feed wire to weld AL. they also make wire for a mig to weld Stainless Steel

Re: Adding material to a case

forgot to add you need the right gas too

Re: Adding material to a case

Jon, you shouldn't be having that many air leak problems with the metra small port. try using a different, slightly thicker base gasket. I know that the gasket that came with my metra was ridiculously thin, that doesn't allow for any imperfections on the sealing surfaces and wont seal as well.

Re: Adding material to a case

ok. maybe ill make some new gaskets then.

my mig is only 125 volt flux core, so i cant weld aluminum anyway.

Re: Adding material to a case

E50 small port Metra builds do not need metal added to the cases. Only za's do on the one side.

Re: Adding material to a case

oh really? there doesnt seem to be very much meat on the case though. i guess ill just make some more gaskets
