anybody know of a good guide, or rule of thumb?
i'm hitting about 20 , sometimes 25mph on flat ground...
i want to raise that without making any substantial changes-

Freds guide is a good general one. When you get all that stuff done then go to more Moby specific wiki pages to get your answers, and use the search function. There is a ton of stuff in the archives here.
By the way, congrats on going motobecane. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask me via email.

Oh, yeah, and you in engineering! Doesn't that mean you would want to change _everything_ about your moped? Why keep it stock?? (I know because I are engineer too)

i'd port it and maybe deck the head per wiki instructions, decarbonize the pipe, and upgrade the carb and intake to a shorty 15mm intake and a 15:15 dellorto.
that should put it up to at least 35mph maybe more.
if you want more acceleration take a ball out of the variator, or upgrade to the malossi variplus.
I bumped the spreadsheet for you. Check it out.
