Estoril restrictor removal

Just thought I would share my experience with removing the "restricter" from my Estoril.

First the basics... Puch Maxi, 80 Gila, home made intake with 21mm Delorto and I started with a 8P.

I wasn't happy with the 8P... loved the top end but most of my riding is around town were low and midrange power is more useful... at least for me.

So I put on the Estoril.... great low and midrange and I was happy... for a while.

But the Estoril really tops out early with a 80 so I thought I would try removing the restricter I read about on the threads.

Only took about a hour to cut it open remove it and weld it back up.

Oh... it really doesnt restrict the flow... if you look at the pics what it does is remove 3 inches of the convergence cone and reshape it slightly and add the 3 inches to the stinger length.

I expected a slight increase in top end power with a corresponding loss in the low end... wrong.

What I ended up with was a honest 5 to 6mph increase in top speed and a big increase in the midrange power. I didnt notice it hit the pipe at any higher RPM than before I modded it but it sure hits the pipe harder now.

Probably the best hour I spent working on my ped in a long time.

Re: Estoril restrictor removal

A pic of my home made intake.

I made it from stainless steaal because I happened to find a peice of SS tubing the perfect inside and outside diameters with a nice mandrel bend... some times you just get lucky.

Awesome!

Cool dude. good to know that there are some significant gains outta this. Was there much loss on the bottom end? or does it feel bout the same?

Re: Awesome!

Can we see your weld job? Thanks for the info.

Re: Awesome!

YES, i've been waiting for a write up for a long time. i know what i'm doing this week

Re: Awesome!

so did you remove that entire piece, the second pick? i have seen other people do this and they say to remove just the three welds and the ring. if all i have to do is cut it open and remove that one piece that seems really easy.

is it any louder?

Re: Awesome!

Come on Ottoman answer the questions... Really though I would like to know. Thinking of taking my pipe to my shop/work today to do these mods. Screw it I'm just going to do it. I'll post pictures when It's done. Mabey tonight.

Re: Awesome!

I've done this, It's pretty easy if you have the tools, but does require some skill. The welds on the baffle inside are a pain but it comes out. make sure you align the pipe back up correctly or the silencer will not bolt back on right. Also cutting the pipe in half and putting it back together ruins the hard clear they had on it from the factory which is pretty thick. So you'll be able to see pretty quickly if anyone has done it to their pipe or not.

Awesome!

OK... yes I removed the entire piece pictured.

Yes all you do is grind away the 3 small welds and the entire piece comes out.

If its any louder it minimal

In my case I didnt notice any loss of low end and a increase of mid and top end. But how it reacts with a different kit or smaller kit I cant say

Re: Awesome!

i shortened the length of the stinger (see attached pic) and got a 1.3mph top speed increase as well. a little better all around too.

Re: Awesome!

dude! derestricted, shortened/straightened stinger, and possibly a shorty header would probably do wonders for ripping.

Thanks!soo much useful info

Re: Awesome!

sick!

cut the header!

Re: Awesome!

I'm curious what you are topping out at now, any idea?

Re: Awesome!

dude yeah! This is so sweet to hear. thanks so much for posting!

Re: Awesome!

Does the DMP have this same restrictor?

Re: Awesome!

you're supposed to be able to see the welds from the outside of the pipe on the estoril so I would imagine same thing for dmp pipe

Re: Awesome!

i'm in the process of doing this right now. it is so awesome!!!!! the header sticks into the cone about 1 inch so i'm gonna trim that up too!!!

DMP also has this restricter.

Re: Awesome!

good job everybody

Re: Awesome!

I was thinking about shortening the header. Looks like I can shorten it by about 2 inches with out a problem.

I will report the results.

Re: Awesome!

good night rafter!

Re: Awesome!

Yeah a nice walkthrough and pictures would be good, especially for and after.

going to definitely do this if i can get ahold of a welder.

Re: Awesome!

heres some pics i have from when a buddy did his...

Re: Awesome!

So did you remove that tube altogether or just do something to it? Is that all there is to it?

Re: Awesome!

That is exactly what I wanted to see! Thanks. That restrictor is kinda big.

Re: Awesome!

I am interested on how the performance changed on other kits. The 80 gila is big. What was the change in performance on a 64 polini, 70 tccd, 65 metra?

It greatly improves 4 petal Athena reed-valve.
