My custom PHBG airbox

I made this trying to cut down on the intake noise from a V1 kit with a PHBG. It has a noticable effect at reducing the pitch and noise level, though it could still be quieter. I just have to switch from rubber bands to a hose clamp to mount it better than this. I didn't have to rejet but it does feel like its running slightly richer. The air filter is panty hose and the horn on the PHBG is the racing horn that came with it.

Lol! Nice man.

I freakin' love ghetto mods!

But why would you want to make it quieter! I love the sound of engines gulping up air. The fact that you can hear the air mixed with the sound of the exhaust is awesome.

It adds colour to the engine! :)

Re: My custom PHBG airbox

i will never understand this "my moped is too noisy" complaint.

that thing is restricting air and making you slower.

Re: My custom PHBG airbox

spray paint it black after scuffing all the surfaces

Re: My custom PHBG airbox

You really want to call attention to illegal modifications with a crazy loud moped? I heard the cops in philly are cracking down on illegally loud motorcycle/scooter/moped exhausts.

Re: My custom PHBG airbox

Also there's a certain element of showing off to having a really loud bike. As a great philosopher once said, "Real gangsta ass niggas don't flex nuts, cause real gangsta ass niggas know they got em."

I'll tell you why that isnt quieter...

because you used a damn water bottle that was designed to minimize wall thickness to reduce material costs!!! cmon, I know ghetto mods, but try to be a little more resourceful when you attack problems and even a ghetto fix can be the "right" one with proper insight.

That shit right thurr, yea... that's just ghetto.

Re: My custom PHBG airbox

Bikes don't have to be loud to be fast, and they can be quiet without being restrictive.

I really like the fact that my bike is quiet and hauls ass.

Re: My custom PHBG airbox

How did you muffle it's noise, I'm trying to dodge complaints from my neighbors, and mine's still legal, geez.

I put little rubber blocks in between the fins on the jug and that helped a lot, but the biturbo is loud and my ghetto air thingy is none too quiet nor predictable, and I need to build a quieting box and replace the crap that's on there. I want to build one that you can vary the intake slightly, from damn near or free to like 1/2 flow. Then I can adjust a lil, for temp 'n stuff.

How about intake harmonics on that Evian massacre (which just might work well... for awhile, until a light breeze takes it away)?

Re: My custom PHBG airbox

Taylor, how are you telling me it isn't quieter when I know that it IS quieter. You're right its not as quiet as possible but a water bottle was the perfect size to fit over the current horn. Mainly this lowers the pitch of the sound as the high pitch whine now vibrates the plastic, which produces a much lower sound. And the sound has to bounce around some corners losing amplitude. I'd be interested to see some better homemade airboxes if you have any.

Re: My custom PHBG airbox

old post sorry. see attached. simple, clean and effective. not too restrictive.
