Tomos clutch tuning....

Im having alot of fun with my little a35. Impressive for a stock bike, 40 on the flats, but I hate the shifting. I saw that some kid modified the springs to get a later shift into second....of course it was streamed video, so its gone. Whos got some info on this? Me wants to do....

Re: Tomos clutch tuning....

hey micheal, a35's have green spring around first gear clutch.(you can tell because when you look at the spring, its colored green or red at the end of it where you connect them together)You can put the same green spring on around the second gear clutch. The green spring is thicker coiled but the same exact length, so it gives the same result as if you were to cut the spring.

Also what you're referring to is you cut a V or 45degree cuts in the clutch padding, you're supposed to get better shifting. Also you can try cutting the spring about a cm. OR you can try a different viscosity of fluid. hope this helps!!

Re: Tomos clutch tuning....

go to the general forum and go to the search, make sure its from all dates and not just the recent 30 days, an theres a couple good posts with pics.

Re: Tomos clutch tuning....

dont mess with the oil... you can however add a bit more which will make it shift later. Might also build pressure and make it leak, but i haven't seen that happen.

Re: Tomos clutch tuning....

yo.

im the streamer.

and i dont know what that guy is talking about switching springs around.... doesnt make sense to me.

and here is a little video that i took explaining and basicly doing it... all but taking and putting the spring one (total pain in the ass)

<embed flashvars="autoplay=false" width="320" height="260" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" src="http://www.ustream.tv/flash/video/763361"; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" />

hope it helps and my nipple does scare you away.

good luck and i hope to have a video of mine running..

p.s. if it seems i am rambling on i noticed that also.

Re: Tomos clutch tuning....

yeah for your nipples, and man power!

Re: Tomos clutch tuning....

What I'm talking about is the actual spring on both 1st and 2nd gear clutches. Look at it. On the end of it, it will be painted either green or red. The Green spring is where the money is. It is thicker coiled and stiffer, sooo that means it gives you the same effect of later shift points w/o cutting or modifying anything else. Ive changed both of my clutch springs with the Green springs and am very satisfied with the result. Tomos sells them.

BTW, using screwdrivers helps with putting the springs back onto the clutch easier but is a BAD BAD idea. Can easily stretch the spring, and is more easily susceptible to stretch when under heavy load.

Re: Tomos clutch tuning....

i know they are colored but if they were both the same spring they would engage at the same time wouldnt they?

causing a a35 to be a one speed.

im going to be like chris paz and get custom tomos springs made lol

if i had the cash i would, for sure

Re: Tomos clutch tuning....

No thats not really possible. 2speed is 2speed. Shifts great.
