good noob kit

Gunther McCilicutty /

This is my first attempt at a kit. I really just want something that more or less won't need case matched to my E-50...I am just looking for a bolt on or a just tad bit more.

I am a 4 month old noob. So what I have been doing is making small mods to my Luxe little by little. To familiarize myself with my Maxi I have been taking it apart, then putting it back together, rinse then repeat. This was the best way for me to "get to know my ped". Below is what I have done or have coming in the mail to add this week.

EBR Forks

new shocks

carb drilled to 14.5mm

rear swingarm from treats

performance pipe (boss)

hi flow air filter

chrome accesories and whatnot.

Since I have the bike completely disassembled, I think it is time to upgrade the top end.

Suggetions on a kit? Bolt up? 50cc or 65cc?

Re: good noob kit

pretty much every kit is going to be the same unless you get a 80cc metrakit in which you would need to enlarge your block to make it fit. anything other than tha is fair game =] good luck sun!

hmmmmI like it and its about 300 bones with the carb upgrade... Ian, Will my 50cc head work with the 62cc cyldr?

"pretty much every kit is going to be the same unless you get a 80cc metrakit in which you would need to enlarge your block to make it fit. anything other than tha is fair game"

that statement is simply wrong.

I'd recommend a 65 metrakit

Re: good noob kit

Hey creamy, I forgot what jet you are running with that drilled out carb. Please refresh my memory, I need to get around to drilling mine.

$300 for a "budget" setup? Shit is absurd these days. 62 Malossi is conservatively ported anyways.

You could match the performance of it pretty easily by just going 70 Airsal ($99) and keeping your Bing drilled to 14.5 mil(free). Jet will be in the 80-82ish area, performance will be 45+. Although, the extra 200 bucks in your pocket may weigh you down a tad, so watch out for that.

Re: good noob kit

yeah if you get anything other than the 80 metra its going to be the same old tuning and port matching if you want. its not rocket science just a dumb little engine nothing to it. yeah you can make them complicated but even then its still just a little engine. throw a kit on dat bitch tune it go fast. all u gotta do.

Rog, as elliot so eloquently put it, you are "simply wrong".

Comparing the tuning of a finicky, reedvalve, nikasil-lined, perfectly ported Polini to a stone age tech, piston port, cast iron Metra 65 is like comparing plums to plantains.

rog is going to MSU for engineering.

good luck with your studies.

Re: good noob kit

its apples to oranges =p no jk just messin'

no srsly though some kits are harder than others to tune and no 2 kits are alike even same brand. running the same moped with the same kit there will be differences in tuning for the slight performance difference. i think we're battling the same point only i made some assumptions i shouldnt have.

i figured he would be only into the airsail 70 the 65metra the 'cheaper' kits or slappin' style kits which is what he wants to begin with.

basically cheaper stuff is not going to be advanced like you said.

'I am just looking for a bolt on or a just tad bit more.'

70ccairsail or 65ccmetrakit or 62cc malossi are good choices i think, help me out guys

Re: good noob kit

better put.

most kits come down to the builder and not the parts anyways.

some kits are better because they don't need a high builder/troubleshooting skill lvl. other kits are not so good because they require alot more attention to detail.

I see what ur saying rob but don't assume everyone is as capable as u and can "slap a kit on"

also yeah its easy if the rest of the bike is in tip top 100% shape, on most ppls builds this is not the case thus leading to many more issues when adding a kit.

cheers goodluck

Re: good noob kit

why don't you want to case match?

Re: good noob kit

'I see what ur saying rob (rog) but don’t assume everyone is as capable as u '

hey now i dont think of myself as anything other than a kit slapper and extremely mild tuner so im not trying to be a know-it-all.

and what you mean about putting a kit on something good means everything. like we put a kit on my friends sketch moped and it only amplified the goofy tendencies of it.

Re: good noob kit

Iron bore for newbies

Start inexpensive and simple

Upgrade parts as your skill increases

Study other peoples work

Save time and money

Easy

I'm runnin a 72 right now....plug chops have been varying since I have been fixing the air leaks. I would say between a 70 and 74

andy...I don't want to case match yet. Baby steps bro..baby steps. I know my limitations right now. I believe my skills at grinding and craftmsmanship are spot on, however I need to learn more about the motor and its inner workings before I go grinding material off it.

I am doing research, reading the wiki, scouring old posts and I think I will be ready in a few months for case matching.

Re: good noob kit

I would say find the cheapest kit out there cause being a noob there is a chance you might blow it up.

hail to the guardians of the moped watch towers in the west by the powers of earth! aid us in our quest to find a glorious kit. we pray of thee, show us your power.

Re: good noob kit

haha

civil engineering?

you can get a puch e-50 to do 40 mph with the parts you have already. learn how to do that, and if you still want to go faster, then buy a kit.

Re: good noob kit

send me your money instead of wasting it on a motor you could possibly blow up. :) i'm broke.

Re: good noob kit

naw graham im in materials science and engineering. and the comment above was because history channel witchcraft was on and... idk. but send erin your money =p
