Let's say I wanted to do some porting on a Batavus

Who's done it? I wanna know how much I can raise, lower, widen, etc.

Re: Let's say I wanted to do some porting on a Bat

i heard shaw say the only thing worth doing was widen the exhaust by 2mm. but that was second hand... telephone. did hippy's thrid transfer ever work? regardless you have to modify the reedblock for any significant advantages.

Re: Let's say I wanted to do some porting on a Bat

there is a ridge in the super slow cylinders that obstructs the exhaust, by grinding that ridge out you move the top of the exhaust up a mm or 2, and you can widen and re-shape the port as well. the good news is that the port is very large at the outlet and has a good flow path, so you can get quite a bit out of them without a bunch of bitchy grinding work. The biggest problem with the batavai is the total lack of compression from the piston not coming alll the way to the top of the cylinder, it needs to be taken off and machined down a couple mm or you'll never have any torque. If you want it done email me, i've done a couple with really good results.

Re: Let's say I wanted to do some porting on a Bat

you can mill the batavus head down a lot! i got 155 psi on mine after you sand it down to where the piston hits and then add a washer to the plug. then yr golden. also easy modifying the clutch to grab later. they won't be torquey but they won't be a "batavus"

Re: Let's say I wanted to do some porting on a Bat

I've already done the clutch spring trick, the thing's got better low end than any of my Garellis. I plan to mill the head tonight, maybe mill the base of the cylinder too if I have the time and feel confident.

I've heard murmurings of this reedblock mod... what exactly does it entail? I haven't really spent much time looking at it, but I'd guess that's a pretty intense trick.

I really need to find a wider header for this thing... it's got the skinny one so I know no matter how I open up the exhaust port it's still gotta push it through that milkshake straw of an exhaust pipe. It's not my bike anymore though so all the work I'm doing to it now is "as a favor", so far I've only been doing mods that don't cost me anything.
