So, those of you that have built custom intakes, what did you use for the base that bolts onto the engine?
Something new? An old Intake?
Post a picture or tell me your story, I want to know.

use your old exaust header. it should work fine.
I make intakes for puchs and minarelli's and moby's. I start off with 1/4" aluminum plate. with the appropriate mounting holes and a 1/4" hole in the center. Then 6061 alum tubing is welded to the base, the quarter inch hole is then opened and matched to the jug...
Tom I will make you one . Is it for the K-star kit ? What carb are you planning on a 19 dell phbg? Maybe an old exhaust header will be a good start . Or fab from scratch if it will be better .Call me and or send a pic of the intake port.
flat, weldable steel. I think my friend often uses foundation washers and cuts them down. Its not pretty but it works well.
rick! I want to take you up on this, but I want to be there and learn as we go, maybe play along and break your mig aswell! I have access to a welder at school with my freetime I'd like to be able to do moped stuff
Ohhhhhh Yeahhhhh its on like donkey kong now !!!
Lets Do This Sunday . Or whenever . Holla.
Stock Puch exhaust headers are close to perfect. They need a little grinding and that's it.
All the better quick ,cheap, easy ,
Don't have any stock Puch headers :/ this is my first Puch and I built from the ground up.
Oops!
Yeahhh And I bet Mark is fresh out of them too. Lol Jk Ask him to part with one . Mine is pretty bent or you could have it.
After you grind off your header, how do you attach it to your carb? Do you just you radiator hose and clamps?
You got it., depending on the type of carb you be runnin'.
Okay. What about something that fits a 17mm Bing? My Puch header is not the correct diameter . What do you use for that? Tried copper tubing; too small.
I use stock A3 Tomos exhaust headers for my 16mm SHA. I had to make an aluminum ring to get it sealed right. It might work for a 17mm too.
How did you make that aluminum ring? I have considered (but not executed) numerouse ideas for making "something" work, but none of them seemed that workable, to be honest. I tried a Puch header, but it was much smaller than the ID of the carb (uncomfortably smaller, from the standpoint of vibration). I was trying not to need to buy a 17mm Puch intake from Europe and burden myself with the mailing costs.
There's puch stock headers on Treats at the moment, in case anyone cares to know :)
made my own intake, used exhaust flange. maybe get some pics up of it soon.
