TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

I have a 70cc TCCD kit which I put on my e50 engine (Puch maxi)

I have a 19mm Dellorto PHBG racing carb, proma GP exhaust, malossi angled air filter, a kstar piston and ring

I have ported the case to match the kit and only really took metal out of the first 2 in and touched up to the back wall but didn't really take anything out.

I have adjusted the timing and first time I went to start her she started and ran for 20-30 seconds then I turned the lights on to check them and the kit died.

So I started her up again and turned on the horn and the kit died. So I checked the spark and it wasn't blue but yellow orange so I replaced the condenser. Now I have a good blue spark.

But, I can't seem to get her to run for anything longer than 20 seconds. I have adjusted my timing to every possible setting (in 4 hours I think I covered them all) I have tried a 66, 69, 70, 71, 74, 80 main jets (I have started big). And if I let it sit for a day then I can start it up for 10-20 seconds again.

My needle is on the 2nd from the top. I believe it is a w9. I have a choke lever and use that. I have tried starter fluid and it is a little better than the gas but not much, and it still won't run.

I have practically new points (4 months old and it has been sitting for 2 or so). I did accidentally chip the stator plate so there is a little metal missing by my top screw to hold it in. But when I tighten it the stator doesn't appear to move.

I believe my gas mixture is close to 35:1 (I started with 50:1 and then added some 2 cycle oil to make it richer) but since it wasn't exactly 5 gallons of gas in the container and I mainly just tried to make it a little richer I am unsure as to the exact mixture but it is close and I used less than what it would have taken 4-4 1/2 gallons to get there.

I have looked around and can't quite see anything on this specific problem. Maybe I am wrong. Thank you in advance.

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

Oh yeah, I have also installed all new bearings (and seals) and a brand new DMP crankshaft from treats

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

Check for airleaks, and do a plugchop to analyze your mixture.

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

Had a similar problem. I needed more air. pull the filter and see if it will run longer. But don't drive around like that.

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

Thank you for the reply!, I am sorry I forgot to post this...I have tried it with the air filter off as well as on.

I have also use the ultra grey permatex sealant to seal the case (which might have been a mistake...I can't seem to find yamaha bond anywhere...) and I used permatex red high temp gasket maker to seal the cylinder and the high compression head I have 2 gaskets on the base cylinder and 1 metal gasket on the head.

I tried it without the head gasket and it hits the high compression head, but it clears it just fine with the gasket.

I will try to post pics of my porting job, just for that to be analyzed.

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

Definately sounds like a jetting issue. Have you messes with the air mixture screen. ? It will not idle correctly without it being set in the right range. Will it run if you hold the throttle open, but not idle?

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

I have tried the side air mixture screw on almost every setting for all those jets mentioned.

And it will not run if I open the throttle either....at least I have tried to start it without the choke and then open the throttle and I think I may be flooding the engine when I do that....idk though.

I have even tried it with the choke on and open the throttle. I just can't quite seem to get her to really get a good start. The starts are rather weak.

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

lee's anus is leefungchowOG /

ditch the FUEL filter not air. might be a flow issue. thats what it sounds like to me.

also sounds like you need to RE-WIRE your bike!!!!!!!!! arg!!

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

My bike is wired the same way I had it running with before I changed everything out and replaced the condenser, with one exception.

The only difference is that the white (or green I can remember now) wire should go closer to the condenser than the black wire......would that have any effect?

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

Thanks for all the suggestions....I will try them and see what comes of it!

Here is a pic of my case matching job

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem to me.

Take the carb off and remove the float bowl. Hook the fuel line back up and open the petcock. There should be a good solid flow of fuel until you raise the float with your finger, then the flow should totally stop.

Also, check the float level setting.

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

ok, I will try that!

update...I finally got the timing perfect with the points at about .016 inches and it ran just fine....although I noticed the magneto assembly (flywheel, magneto and that whole assembly) was really hot and the nut popped off

so I cinched it on and rode for about 30 minutes. And changed jets around....my smallest jet seems to be too big (66).

Oh yeah I also am using 1/2 fuel line......not sure if that matters but it is a good snug fit.

And anyways I noticed something was wrong and the moped wouldn't start again....so I took the flywheel off and saw that basically my woodruff key was too small and that the flywheel was moving without that woodruff key keeping it in place

I fixed that by making a woodruff key and it is snug in there now with no tolerance.

But my main problem is I think that either my stator plate is moving or my points are moving.

B/c once I get them set perfectly and I get 1 huge perfect spark then I won't be able to get any sparks.... until I reset it again.

I am thinking that nick out of my stator is allowing it to move since the screw only hold onto 1 side instead of being surrounded by material. The outside metal chunk fell off...

I have another engine which I will one day build back up but I am scavenging parts from it as I need them....

Thanks for all of your input!!!!!!!!

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

you're running a 66 mainjet in a 19 phbg?

that is like, turbo too small. you should be in the 80's i think. take a look at the moped tuners setup spreadsheet for a ballpark.

Re: TCCD kit not running for long after new setup

Well, the highest jet I currently have is an 80....and well I couldn't even get the moped to start with that. And it seemed to have a bog when I tried the 69 jet....like when I tried to throttle past half-throttle. Maybe it is just because I am extremely too small...idk, I will look into larger jets! thanks!
