Clutch temp...

So, I have been pondering this. My bike, when first started has super good low end. The clutch slip is incredible. After about 5 minutes of riding, everything heats up and the slip isnt nearly as good.

Elliot I know you said you tried some scooter tranny fluid that didnt heat up as much, but does it slip as good as 5w-20? Is there any other way to keep the temp down a little bit in there?

I hate puch clutches.

Re: Clutch temp...

i've heard people talk about this before but i don't really get it. seems like it would slip more as fluids become more viscus from being heated. but there's a lot of expansion going on in there too.

i think its more of a top end problem, metals expanding and your charge becoming heated seems the characteristics of an air cooled 2 stroke.

i 'm on my __ clutch i saw its all chewed i put it on for seattle, longest lasting one yet though, but its far too heavy and engages very soon.

Re: Clutch temp...

I dont think its a top end problem. I am not losing power any where else. I have had that problem before. Not running a cool enough plug or whatever, but like I said, no loss of power anywhere else. But once my bike is really hot, I lose like half my slip.

Re: Clutch temp...

bump for elliot.

Re: Clutch temp...

ive noticed the same thing on my magnum. i'm running 5w-20 (royal purple synthetic) with a 3 shoe and paz springs on a metra80 with a simonini. when it first starts up, i can rev the living piss out of it before the clutch will grab. and my clutch isnt even tuned into the pipe's powerband. then after a little while, it grabs much sooner. i just assumed it was because of the expansion inside the engine.

Re: Clutch temp...

gee motobecanes don't have that problem

Dry clutches FTW!

Re: Clutch temp...

Would you like me to start naing all the problems that mobys have that puchs don't. ;)

Re: Clutch temp...

tommy i just tried that shit for the first time today and i fucking love it!!!!!!!! i'm hooked. slips the same every time. don't care if it doesn't slip as much as 5w20, but you can TUNE TO IT and make it so!!!!

get it.

fuck i just went to go look for the bottle, but me and annelise split it, and she must have taken in home!!

it will work wonders dude.

rock oil semi syth atf scooter tranny oil

A thought:

In my Ford rear axle, which is a posi-traction, with clutches, they add a bottle of "modifier". Even with synthetic oil, you still need this modifier. Without it, the clutches grab too much. The modifier allows it to slip some.

So - my suggestion, buy a bottle of "friction modifier" at the local parts store and put in a small amount.

Re: Clutch temp...

Hmmm, an interesting thought. Anyone else have thoughtsw on this. I might go give it a shot.

Re: Clutch temp...

ok so it's rock oil semi syth scooter aft.

there is a specific # after the words atf semi synthetic that i do not remember, but i am going to the shop today so i will check out what it says and post it.

O and yeah it blasts consistently all the time, its not as slippy (but pretty damn good slip way better than type F) as the moble 1 but its consistent every time and u can just tune/mod the clutch so it can slip just as much.
