I just recently picked up a nw bike for the lady of my life. I want to put a kit on it (so she can keep up) but want it to pretty quiet. Has anyone put a kit on aand kept the stock exhaust and carb?
The bike.
Depending on the kit size (and if you have the v1 most kits are big) the stock carb is not a good idea as it could lead to seizure. I don't know about the carb though.
It has a V1. I think with a 75 or 70cc kit I could get away with the stock carb? My other bike has a 70cc kit and it said in the instructions to use a 14.12 carb with a 54 jet!! (Polini) I just wonder how it would run with the stock pipe mostly. I did not see a big difference when I added the super loud mamba to my bother bike when it had a stock bore. The stock pipe has a pretty good size header and is not nearly as restricted as my stock pipe from my other V1.
Yea, don't listen to those instructions from Polini. It's a one-way ticket to seize-ville, man.
You won't get all the performance that kit has to offer in the stock pipe, but it shouldn't blow it up. If anything, spend some loot and get you a 19 or 21mm for the kit. Your bike will thank you.
Then I guess you should be fine on the exhaust end but I can't say enough to invest in some carbeurated insurance for that exspensuve kit.
I ran my v1 with the polini, dell 15.15, 75 jet for a month or so...not bad at all. I did gain 5mph with a 19 though. Hell, put a pipe on it, that'll be a great start before the kit.
Minarelli exhausts loudest to least: Mamba, Scorpion, Proma Circuit. So get a Proma Circuit and at least get some performance without too much noise.
I just swapped over a 15.15 on it. I also have a Techno boss pipe I am going to hack up so it is on the right side I guess? I also have anextra cylinder I might try my hands at some porting and see if I can get her a little faster. Is it 1mm you shave the cylinder for more power?
