Minarelli V1 Suggestions

Already posted in Moped repair but figured some don't venture there so. I have an 80cc kitted v1 with new bearings and seals. Techno estoril pipe. 19mm carb with 86 jet. Starter clutch engages all the way. 150 compression. It will fire but only every time. Sometimes it only runs when the starter clutch is engaged. Sometimes it backfires. Haven't really messed with points and timing but it should be good enough to run. Has good enough compression to run. Has spark. Fuel is fine (It's getting it). I'm stumped. Mark Ryan feel free to chime in.

I'm lost ..

"Starter clutch engages all the way."

"Sometimes it only runs when the starter clutch is engaged."

You should only ever use the clutch to start the motor.

Do not ever pull that clutch lever was its running.

I hope I helped.

btw what air filter? 86 sounds lean.

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

I know not to pull the clutch when it's running. I'm just saying that sometimes it will run if I keep it engaged. 86 should be fine has been the general concensus. Uni pod type air filter by the way. Thanks.

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

You better look at the points and ... retime it. All my v1 are half kick start.

^^ Yea, what he said. Don't ever hold the clutch when the engine is engaged. You will flatten the plate bearing quicker than you can say "Oh Faaawwwwwk."

It seems many people remark about issues with the starter clutch and the v1 kits. I think it's just has something to do with the amount of compression associated with the kit, almost like the clutch slips because of how much compression the cylinder is generating, or something.

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

V1 start on the first kick... everytime is what I ment.

Whoa, you guys are quick. As Ed said, start with the timing. If that doesn't fix having to pull the clutch to keep 'er running, check the clutch.

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

Yep the v1,s are one kickers, or should be. check your points, then condenser...condensers seem to be a cause of loooooooong pedal starts... Ten bucks says you seize with an 86, census is shit, the plug tells you what you need.

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

Thanks. Will do. Any others?

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

My 70cc kit is a one kicker when it doesn't slip. What plug are you running?

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

Might want to adjust it a few turns on the cable tensioner on the case.

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

Looser or tighter? B8HS Because I heard they get REAL hot. I want to ride it so bad!

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

B8's = the fonz = cooooooooler

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

Yeah that was the plan. Cool it off a little.

B8HS = Foul City around these parts. I've had better luck with 7's and 8's, but that's just me. Your plugs will tell you all you need to know!

Re: Minarelli V1 Suggestions

It's not fouled. I've barely gotten to run it enough to turn the plug's color.
