Metra 65 gas mileage question

I recently finished and am in the process of tuning my first kitted project. I see to be getting unbelievably low gas mileage. I expected a significant drop from stock, but I feel like I'm getting like 25 mpg (ish)!? Can someone give me a [relative/general] estimate of what I should be getting?

Setup:

-e50 w/ 65 Metra

-case matched and some porting

-21mm phbg

-k&n

-motomatic n8te p

-high comp head (50cc)

-performance crank

-82 main jet

-18X40

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

why so surprised? you just tripled your HP output.

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

My setup

Metra65 case matched

19mm PHBG / no filter

Boss Pipe

Performance Crank

Stock 3 shoe

16/45

I get 63-68mpg depending on how fast I'm running and what kind of hills I encounter.

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

I got 80mpg on my e50/polini/19 PHBG/Boss during the last 100 mile trip I took. I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of wide open blasting.

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

Hmm, I think I need to take a nice long cruise on a full tank (with a contingency plan) so I can really test this out. It just doesn't seem right.

why do you use such big carbs on such small kits, 19's and 20's are for the big boys. i have a 65 metra that goes 40 with a 12mm carb (not case matched) big carbs are a myth.

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

Better tuning options. Bing jets suck to deal with. 65 Metras can go way faster than 40 with a bigger carb and case matching. Like another 15 mph.

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

The Metra has a 19mm intake and I wanted to have the 21mm as a versatile option with other kits. Also, mine current setup goes 50 all day (thats pre-break not at WOT). I realized a 15 bing could push the kit fine, but not like a 19 or 21 can.

Are you getting 23mpg or 23 miles per tank? If it's latter, that almost sounds right. Maybe a little low... I dunno. That's pretty much my set up with a diff. pipe, but I have a Magnum... so bigger tank, meaning I don't notice as much.

its not possible you are getting so few, you are probly leaking gas and dont notice it

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

12mm on a metra65 is a map to seizeland.

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

I'm right at 46 miles per tank on my metra with a 16mm dell.

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

ok, that makes me feel a bit better. Today i developed another theory. I have it jetted pretty rich for break in and I have a fucking enormous k&n on there...a noticeable mix sprays into the filter (and maybe evaporates???). I don't know, its all good. I built this bike for speed, not fuel efficiency. thanks guys.

Re: Metra 65 gas mileage question

yeah check your lines. i took a 10-15 mile trip one day and ran out of gas before i got home. i check the carb and saw the bottom of the gas line was wet. turned out that my fuel line had ripped open and was spraying everywhere. def. felt like it was slower at just about everything that day.
