Do you guys have trouble with your starter clutches slipping too much. I have to pull the handle, plus pull the cable as hard as i can to get mine to start. Any remedies for this, or should i just drain it and put in some regular atf?

Have you tried tightening the cable amap?
yeah. i cant even bottom out the starter clutch lever. it seems like the lever bends before im able to put enough force on the cable.
Take your clutch out, clean it and scuff up the starting material with some rough sanding paper. Should help a bit.
Ok. Do have to drain the tranny to pull the clutch? Ive never tried to pull this one before.
You don't have to drain the fluid if you don't want to. Lean the bike over on it's left side really far and you should be able to get the cover off without it leaking.
ooh, good tip jesse. thanks.
yeah, i really need to do this. ive got a cut on my hand from holding the cable so hard to keep the starter clutch from slipping. i might need to switch to regular old ATF, in the future, too.
I think that motul possibly ate up my 3 shoe clutch, but than again i did few burnouts here and there, i installed a new clutch and switched to good old type F fluid, anyone have any ideas about this?
why use anything other than type F ??
For less friction heat and better grab.
Running the motul probably didn't hurt your Clutch, Nele. The burn-outs probably did. E-50 clutches don't like working hard when you're not going anywhere ;)
lol, yeah i'm using 5w-20 synthetic at the recommendation of many great tuners. It seems like it works great, the clutch grabs nice and hard. The starter clutch just slips. Ill see if i can fix it today.
thanks guys.
so 5w-20 synthetic engine oil is the best option for oil?
idk if its the best, but mike rafter and others swear by it. i think they like mobil 1 synthetic 5w-20. i decided to try royal purple. honestly though, i think its really only better if youre running a tuned clutch.
I've run synthetic 20w-50 with no problems to my clutch....
5w-20 sounds kinda thin, but whatever floats your boat!
I've also heard that motorcycle grade ATF is good and has more resistance to heat breakdown (I think it's basically made for this application). I have yet to try anything except regular ATF though. I am curious about the 5w-20, but my hi comp head makes starting pretty stout anyway so I wonder if I could get enough stick on the starter clutch to even get it to turn over.
Anyone ever mix juices???
it actually grabbed enough for me to start the bike today. maybe since it was a new clutch, it had to break in or something?
also, i have a slight leak at the bottom of the tranny cover running this fluid. any of you experienced this problem? what can i do to fix it? its already got a brand new gasket on it.
i've had the leaking issue before, turned out to be the gasket wasnt cut out properly, so i simply made myself one with gasket paper.
ahh, ok. i guess ill have to make one then.
