got a polini kit for my garelli. i have some ?'s

well i got a polini kit for my 1979 garelli ssxl. so i've got a few questions. hopefully someone that is running this kit will chime in. basically i dont wanna just throw my cyclinder kit on with out having all the proper things. ive searched the forum and read quite a bit but it seems like everyones responses are all over the place. so here are a few of my questions.

Which carb should i look into getting and what intake manifold to match it if possible? right now its the stock 14.12 dellorto.

next which exhaust would be good for this set up?

whats a good jet to start out with for break in and after break in?

and does anyone know where to find a new clutch ? mines not dead but id rather have a new one in there to start with.

i know im asking a lot but any help is much appreciated. thank you.

Re: got a polini kit for my garelli. i have some ?

a kit was a bad place to start for your mods, honestly.

You should have started with an exhaust, carb clutch tune it all in, then upgrade to the kit.

You'll probably need to upjet a few sizes, but you need to run really oily, like a 32:1 or something like that , dinosaur style to break it in.

You also may want to port and case match your engine, and fabricate an intake whiel its all off, or get a new intake for whatever size carb you decide to put on.

All in all, If its your very first mod, its gonna be fun for you. Haha.

Re: got a polini kit for my garelli. i have some ?

mmm basically i bought the kit.i didnt install it and am not trying to until i have all the parts i need. thats why i posted here.

Re: got a polini kit for my garelli. i have some ?

Well, you can install the kit without doing anything else but you wont see an amazing gain.

Id reccomend rebuilding your engine while its apart, and installing the kit, doing casematching and porting.

Then reinstall your engine, and fire it up to make sure it works.

Order a new pipe, a 16.16 carb or whatever will fit on your intake, a high flow air filter, and a handfull of jets and get to tuning.

Re: got a polini kit for my garelli. i have some ?

If you don't want to go all out just put the kit on, no case porting, upjet the carb and slap a 2 piece biturbo on.

The biturbo sucks for this setup but works and is a quick and easy way to ditch the stock exhaust until you decide what to do..... To get a good pipe you're gonna end up cutting and welding cause the garelli pipes are hard to find.

I just did this to my buddies Garelli... exactly whats I said above and there's a big difference in performance with lots of tuning potential going forward.

19mm carb and intake with port matching and a welded up pipe would make her rip if that's what you're looking for.

Cheers.

Re: got a polini kit for my garelli. i have some ?

you can bend the header a little on a Puch pipe and it mounts up pretty easy, change that and your jet/air filter for a grand total of under $100, then kit.

good answer man. that helps me out pretty well. i didnt really wanna get any porting done accept maybe to the intake manifold thats about it. but yea do u know what exact jet hes running so i have an idea? thank you.

Re: got a polini kit for my garelli. i have some ?

I don't remember off the top of my head... somewhere between 70 and 78.

Re: got a polini kit for my garelli. i have some ?

there is a 20mm polini intake for a minarelli that'll fit, but if you don't want to go that big, find you a 14mm puch intake and wallow the holes in to fit. works great, a 15 sha fits snug. pipe wise, a mid-range puch pipe will do nice, just needs work to fit. don't worry about case match, close enough stock. have fun. you'll dig the handling. get some low bars and it'll be even better.
