Vespa cut crank

Did a quick search on this and didn't find anything. Can anybody enlighten me on the process? How does shortening the crank not kill compression? I got a spare engine and I wanna start playing with the ports. Any vespa specific advice would be great. Yes I know about the 2 stroke tuners hand book or whatever its called. But I just want to start the conversation with all you bad ass Ciao tuners.

"Here":http://vespa-ciao.nl/forums.php?m=posts&q=8180 is a how -to from vespa-ciao.nl. It's in Dutch but you can translate it with yahoo bable fish if you need to. Polini recommends 5 mm and 15mm. Malossi recommends 5 mm and 10 mm.

Re: Vespa cut crank

"I see" said the blind man! I was envisioning shortening the rod which made no sense to me at all. Thanks. Still looking for porting advice in english if anyone feels like sharing.

Re: Vespa cut crank

You'll want to open and possibly reshape the intake on the crank case. Instructions are in the Wiki under Vespa Kinetic. If no one here has input on the cylinder ports, (I think we usually just buy kits) go and check out Vespa-ciao.nl and ask them. They have an English section in the forums and they are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Re: Vespa cut crank

I'm not ready to be reshaping windows. I was just thinking about doing the intake and opening up and matching the transfers where the case and cylinder meet, mill the head and match exhaust when treats gets them back. See what I can get out of 50cc before I've got the monies for a kit. I would do this all by hand as I don't have the power tools and files will force me to go slower (safer).
