motobecant broke man's performance variator weigts

shit talkin' hippy /

ok, I'm sure someone has done this before and I am just wondering where a good place to get balls from would be.

Like some ceramic balls to replce the heavy steel ones. the bearing store in richmond just went out of buisness and I am out of luck localy...

Re: motobecant broke man's performance variator we

ceramic beads at a bead store or arts and crafts store?

Re: motobecant broke man's performance variator we

ha, yeah that probably'd work indeed. I wonder if they'd break though? I was thinkin' of more strong ceramic like the ones used in HP bearings, but It's worth a shot

Re: motobecant broke man's performance variator we

well you probably know this but i figure it cant hurt, just in case you dont have any left over to measure. They are 13.5mm in diameter, and i think the weight is floating around somewhere on the perf tuning section.

You could try macmaster carr... im looking right now, you can get 17/32" = .53125. which is damn close to 13.5mm = .53149". Thatd probably work. But of course you can only get those in steel.

Anyways, i just got a varplus from treats and for the cost it was an awesome investment. Good alternative to trying to tune the stock variator. people complain that you have to disassemble it to change the weights, but after a few tries you can have your variator off your bike, in pieces on your work bench, and back together again in less than 10 minutes. not so bad.

good luck,

-Steve

Re: motobecant broke man's performance variator we

got one?

Re: motobecant broke man's performance variator we

i got one. i'll sell it to ya or i could use a few moby engine things. specifically a clutch drum. ive got a lot of other moby engine parts, too, if you need them.

Re: motobecant broke man's performance variator we

I've got clutch drums, off of dimobys look the same as far as I can tell, how much you want for the 4 ball if it isn't? it just mounts up in place of where the three went right? let me know dude! yups

Re: motobecant broke man's performance variator we

yea the dimoby clutch drums look the same but they arent... ive got like 20 i wish they were. theyve only got 3 pads as opposed to 4 and the nub where the crankshaft fits into isnt "deep" enough. i dunno maybe im wrong... does anyone know if a dimoby clutch drum works on a variator? guess i could just try it...

yea you gotta take your variator off, take off the reverse thread 35mm bolt, remove the regular thread fixed cheek, and then the sliding cheek slides off. Underneath the sliding cheek is where the little plastic ball retainer guy goes, and theyre interchangable. just swap em out.

ill let you know if the clutch drum swap works out otherwise if i dont get back to you on this thread in 24 hours email me to remind me. you can have the thing for 15 shipped.
