minarelli's suck

Well, not really, but i am having the hardest time getting this motron past 31 mph... I put a bi-turbo on it, de-restricted my air-filter, re-jetted to a 64, and all I got was more noise.. I am learning the fine art of air-fuel mixture, but I keep hearing these minarellis are blasters.. I must be doing something wrong... Any ideas? thanks....dan

Re: minarelli's suck

what size carb?

what gearing?

sure a 64 is right?

Re: minarelli's suck

Keep tuning that mofo, im telling you that even stock, my General Lazer flies...try a smaller jet like 52

Re: minarelli's suck

You can get BIG kits for them (90cc). I'm going to be running an 80cc.

Re: minarelli's suck

Yea, it's stock gearing.... I want to see how much I can get out of my stock 50cc cylinder before I go to a massive kit.,..I was running a 52 jet in it, it ran fine with the biturbo exhaust... But as soon as I de-restricted my air filter, It bogged down on me..Which told me that I was getting too much air, so I upjetted till it ran good again.. Which put me at about a 64 jet.. I am running a 14.12 dellorto.. Maybe thats the problem? The air intake is just too small on the carb?

Re: minarelli's suck

Port it. Also, there are much better pipes than a biturbo. Do you know if you had the 20 mph or 30 mph cylinder to start? You probably had the 20 so going 31 is actually an improvement of over 50%.

Re: minarelli's suck

Stock it was doing 28-29.. Is there anything you can do as far as machining the head? To get more compression?

Re: minarelli's suck

how old is your plug? You may just be getting not great spark limiting your speed. Or your jetted to high.

Re: minarelli's suck

You could shave the head and use premium gas. But port matching and widening the port windows by a millimeter or two would probably be more dramatic.

Re: minarelli's suck

premium gas? really? thats your recommendation?

i use the good stuff every time, for sure, but its not adding any speed. shit.

Re: minarelli's suck

a 52 size jet to a 64 is a huge leap. go to a 54 and keep going up until it hits right.

Re: minarelli's suck

I have a Mamba pipe with a 14.12 carb with no airbox and I'm running a 65 jet. I am in the low thirtys with mine. I have a 42 gear in the back and a 11 in the front. I was running a 10 tooth and it made a big dirrerence when I swapped to the 11.

Re: minarelli's suck

I also tried a 15.15 carb and it made a good difference on the top end.

Re: minarelli's suck

definately port it some. Raise the exhause and lower the intake to reach some higher rpms and slap a 15 or 16 on it. Ditch the biturbo and get an estoril.

Re: minarelli's suck

I only recommend premium gas IF you increase compression by shaving the head. Otherwise it does nothing.

Re: minarelli's suck

so how do you know if you have the 20 or 30 mph cylinder? just curios?

Re: minarelli's suck

is the intake port the size of your index or pinky finger?

Re: minarelli's suck

The cylinder's are two different sizes.. The bore size of the 20mph one is 38.0mm and the 25-30 is 38.8mm.. I don't know if there is a way to tell just from looking at the bike and not measuring it yourself but that would be one way

I def. recommend a larger carb/intake.. not more than a 16.16 if your not kitting the ped.. some portmatching if your good with the dremel... and an estoril exhaust... bi-turbo's are for the birds.. know that with an estoril comes some fitting/welding..

Also if your tapped out with sprocket options you can try and put some Tomos wheels on it.. saw them on a general 5 star the other day.. you can get a tiny rear spoke in the back but your bottom end will probably be pretty bad..

good luck

Re: minarelli's suck

Getting the air right is the trick. You should try a 56-58 jet with a stock 50cc and Dellorto, then tweak the air in. Trust me, it's all in the air.

Look at the piston's dome. it will give you a number, such as 38,8 or 3-,-. That is your bore in mm.

Sometimes they do not have numbers, in which case, the only way to know is to measure it.

Add a 15:15 or a 16:16, Mamaba (or Estoril, though I personally have not tried this pipe YET) with a 38,8mm bore and a 11 X 44 gearing, and you should be somewhere around 35ish. Adjust your gearing, and you can squeeze more out of it. Do some porting, and you could probably get 'er doing 40.

I find Minarelli's aren't the fastest stock bikes out there, but they have a lot of torque/low end. If you want fast with easy and cheap mods, get a Puch.

Oh yea, and pretty much what everyone else said. Minarelli's can be funny about their air ratios.

Re: minarelli's suck

Yea but Minarellis are just _classier_ than Puchs.

Re: minarelli's suck

Perfekt Timing Angel /

^^^ Yup!!!! They also have 'charisma'!

Re: minarelli's suck

Much classier... And this motron was my first, so it holds a special place in my garage.. I'll probably never sell her.. and everyone and their mother owns a puch

Re: minarelli's suck

amen

Re: minarelli's suck

minarellis are the torquiest out there though....I'm confident enough to wager on that. I'm debating on tweeking the ports on the polini for a few more RPMs

Re: minarelli's suck

I ported my dr kit 43mm =60cc. The exhaust is is tapered widen the window a bit. Its nice kit and bullet proof. Yeas the mamba bolts right up. 16mm intake 24mm exhaust. These are very rare but can be found in italy. -Ed

Re: minarelli's suck

Haha, right on!

Re: minarelli's suck

Ed,

where in Italy?!? ha

i've searched italian ebays and all over the. i can't find them.

any hints?

Re: minarelli's suck

when juggernaught mentioned running premium fuel that was in conjunction with shaving the head. He wasnt saying that premium fuel would make it faster but that it is a needed measure when raising the compression by shaving the head in order to prevent pre-detination.

Re: minarelli's suck

These are super rare.. you wont just find it.

I can get whatever minarelli v1 parts you need. Ed
