Hit a wall with my techno boss

Cleats Onionpockets /

78 Puch Maxi, E50 bottom end

I've a korado top end, transfer ports matched and exhaust port widened a hair on either side. I've a 17mm bing widemouth on a magnum X intake manifold (pointing it forwards). I've 14x45 gearing, and a lightened 2 shoe clutch with paz springs. I'm running stock points based ignition, and I'm still on the original crank.

I rode the bike up to the welding shop in the city today, about a 10 mile ride (with earplugs). The bike performed admirably, idled easily at a nice low tickover, nice and smooth. It pulled decently from 0-7 or 8, then I could feel the bike vibrate as the clutch dug in and the thing would pull hard up to about 25. There the acceleration would let up a bit, and it would ease up to 30-32. Now, at that speed the engine is at a nice high rpm with the 14x45 gearing. I'm out for acceleration, and whatever top speed comes with it.

The owner of the welding shop modified my techno boss admirably, fitting it to the angled exhaust port on the korado cylinder like it was meant to go there in the first place. Now, the acceleration has changed slightly. It still pulls up to 8mph without me needing to pedal boost it (I'm 6'2" and 280, keep in mind). The bike vibrates as the clutch digs in, and it simply screams up to 24 or so, where once again the acceleration slacks off sharply and it eases up to 35.

Now, it feels like it should have more of a powerband, or perhaps what's happening is I'm feeling the midrange boost of the techno boss, and I need something with a higher RPM powerband. But I can't tell whether there's something else I should be considering, or whether the exhaust pipe could be holding it back. It does four stroke a bit at 35, so I may downjet a size to see what happens, but even so, the drop in acceleration rate from 24-35 has me wondering.

Any thoughts?

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

If you're four stroking then thats you're wall.

My Boss kicks in at about 20-25 mph and pulls really hard up to about 45 and then a slower but steady climb into to 50's. The fastest I've had it up to is 53, but I think it'll still let me go a little bit faster than that. I have about 300mi on my Polini now so I haven't held it wide open at over 45 for very long, maybe 10 seconds at a time. It hasn't felt like its limiting me at all.

16x40 gearing.

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

change ure timing as wel, advanvce it

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

first of all, clutch vibration is not a good thing.

second, that gearing is a really bad idea if you are looking for top speed.

the korado has lots of torque to give, and combined with the right clutch tuning u can get a lot out of it. when i did 50 on my korado cylinder i had 18x45 gearing and a simonini pipe. you need to at least go back to stock gearing if you want top speed.

your clutch is not engaging right if it vibrates when it does, one of the springs is tighter than the other. they arent always exactly the same lenght. you gotta check the tension as well. i do it by prying it open with a flat head screw driver in different hand/arm positions till its almost impossible to do. like using 3 fingers and twisting at the elbow. then i do it to the other one and see if it feels the same. think of it like a built in torque wrench lol.

To be honest, with what I weigh (much more than you, lets be honest), what I'm looking for is crazy acceleration, and I'll take whatever top speed it ends up with as a result.

As for the clutch tightening, I took them down all the way, then backed them out an equal number of turns, but it's entirely possible that they're doing just that, not engaging at the same time due to them being slightly different lengths, or possible one is stronger than the other, who knows. I'll take it out and have another go at it.

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

if you are looking for torque on 50ccs you should go with the tecno estoril or tecnigas next. the boss is designed for overall speed increase, with a slight loss of bottom end.

you could also try upping the compression by milling the head. have you tested compression?

yeah that spring thing happens to me every time. they are never exactly perfect. sometimes they are close but if u get them dialed in perfectly it makes a huge difference in how hard it hits and the life of you motor.

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

basically u have to compromise something.. whether that be,acceleration, top speed, displacement (kits vs stock), or weight.

naw if you want torque go tecno circuit.

but i had 15x40 gearing with a korodo/circuit combo and hit 38 and had mad torque

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

jenny craig and subway

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

i got a circuit and im getting a 36 rear think thats okay? i have the stock front gear for it. (1980 puch maxi 1 speed)

Yeah, 14x45 gets me to 35, again, it's a korado....nuf said. But I ran through a full tank of fuel in about 30 miles with the engine wound up that high, so a regear is needed just to bring the fuel consumption down a bit.

15 tooth is stock on a korado tho.

it produces enough torque that you dont need to go any lower.

with a pipe you might consider at least 16 tooth.

Oh, just an update. Counted the teeth, it's 13x45 not 14x45

crazy high revs

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

14X45 dude? Get a 16 tooth front at least...

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

You are maxed out with that gearing dude, but I think you would still be happy with 16X45 on the bottom end. How much do you weigh?

Re: Hit a wall with my techno boss

that's the tedious part....6'2", 275 to 280 depending on how much coffee I've had. Weight loss is in the works, but that takes time and I'm impatient.

It should be said that it will climb any hill I throw it at, most at about 30mph.
