SACHS 505/1D TERD? helpp

I finally got me suburban set up with the 505/1d after a 1a swap. it has a lot of power but will not break 30. I thought it was a bolt on 40 mph motor. its got a biturbo and the only way to really got it to go is to take off the filter and thats the only way i can get to 30. i just went through this whole motor and transmission because i had to replace the crank. everything looks ok..?? I had to change the stator plate with the one from my 1a. could the timing be off? i just put it on so the screws were in the middle of the slots. what do you think?? Thanks

my 1d goes up to like 36, sometime 37 all stock. Maybe your timing is off?

What parts did you swap?

Do you know how to set timing?

What carb are you using?

what pipe do you have on it?

What muffler do you have on it?

What is your gearing?

Did you or someone you know tie a boat anchor to the moped while you weren't looking?

What air filter do you have?

Are your brakes dragging?

I swaped all the ignition parts because they were the same but i didnt set the timing. how do you know when its right on the money? I am using the bing carb that comes with the 505/1d, the one with out the needle. I have a new biturbo welded to a sachs header and thats the only muffler i have. I believe gearing is 12 tooth front and 45 rear. Ill chech on the boat anchor. I am running an open air box because with the filter its a real dog but i hear the 1d filter is larger and the air box might be different. all i had was the 1a filter and air box. but im not using it anyway. brakes check good. On the flywheel there are 2 marks, one is the top dead center mark the other is the ignition fire mark.

There is a mark on the engine case where the TDC mark lines up when the piston is at top dead center. You swapped the flywheel so it's going to be in a slightly different place than it was before, so you might need to make a new mark.

Spin the flywheel in the direction of the arrow and you points should just start to open up right as the ignition mark passes the TDC mark on the engine case.

Adjust it by any way you can- move the strator, move the points, bend the points, whatever.

As for Jetting- you probably have a 58 in there. Once you have it running use a new plug and see if you are running rich or lean, and adjust it. Use a filter, make an airbox, Etc.

i lied. i ripped it today and it goes 32 on a flat, 25 uphill, and 38 down hill. Did anyone have any luck eliminating the jug gasket on these?

how much do you weigh? 32 still isn't that terrible. My boyfriend's eagle has the stock pipe with a "performance" air leak and he goes about 36ish. he only weighs 150, though.

c-c-check your gearing. Don't say it's stock. When I got my Eagle III, it was geared to go 18 mph "stock."

505d's don't go 18.

On a lot of sachs's the gearing is 11 on the front, and 44 to 48 in the back.

What kind of compression are you getting, and have you gotten the timing set right yet?

I do have a 44 in the back but most people run this gear and exceed 35. i still kinda confused about the timing but i will try to do it today. I do have a 40 tooth from a balboa i could throw on there but i think it just not running right rather than geared wrong so ill wait for that.

so today i cranked the stator plate as far as it would go one way and tested it as i moved it back until it felt best. timing is not the issue. what causes four stroking because it sometimes will do that at wide open throttle but not always. im wondering if i should get a stock filter on there or maybe somehow up jet. i feel like its a carburation issue but i dont really know how to troubleshoot this type of problem.

but i have an open air box with a stock jet. the onl difference is the biturbo. and the plug isnt black, its like a dryish light brown. isnt there a similar condition caused by too much air? also theres no dang sachs jets anywhere! will puch jets fit the 505/1d carb

Spite your face by cutting off your nose... don't drill the carb out.

What is your timing set at, right now- not feel OK, do the points open when they should?

Try a smaller jet. Call handy bikes and buy one.

The reason I asked what parts you used is I'm not sure which crank you got in what case, or if you just used the whole D motor and swapped in the A stator and flywheel.

The pipe you welded the bi-turbo to- is it the same diameter all the way from one end to the other, or does it have a thicker section welded to the end, and the middle?

i used the whole d motor and a stator from the a motor i took off. the crank is from a g3 with a d motor. the biturbo is a sachs header welded to the biturbo expansion chanber then theres the biturbo muffler. its that 2 pieced deal that 1977 sells. i really appreciate the help.

I tried to look for whAt you told me about setting timing but im a little comfused. thats y i just messed with it to see if it would make a difference. ill take a better look today.

I'm having the same problem with my 5051d. I flipped the intake and put a 16mm dellorto with a uni pod on there. I'm currently running a 60 jet. Plug shops seemed OK but it only does 29mph and spits up fuel soaking the filter. I also have the tomos bullet and Sachs header (larger then the bullet). What fuel ratio are you running? I also did a lot of porting. My 504 foxi has better top end very disappointing.

I run 50:1. i just bought an assortment of jets from handybikes. why do people flip the intake?

I used richer gas and the four stroking stopped. im assuming that its because the gas is thicker and its acting as if the jet were smaller. but im still at 32-33 mph.

Your four-stroking went away because by adding more oil to your gas you are actually leaning out your mix.

no but the sleve is slightly loose coming out of the cylinder. is there a fix for this?
