AV10 Build

so yeah, i am doing an AV10 build. i am planning on using my stator and flywheel from my AV7. I got a Parma crank from treats and was wondering if i can use the novi nut for the flywheel, or do i need a different nut? this is new to me so it will be a learning experience. thanks for your help.

Re: AV10 Build

u need an av10 nut, or equivelant, the difference from the av7 novi nut is its normal thread.

PS u have to tighten it down twice as hard since its normal thread now, and using lock tight is a good idea, trust me.

Re: AV10 Build

any idea where to get one? i cant seem to find them anywhere.

Re: AV10 Build

no one has them yet. email jesse stephenson, mrlenguini at hotmail dot com. he can make you one.

So to dumb this thread down a bit, what are the major issues in mounting an AV10 on a 50v AV7 set up? Until very recently it was my understanding you just couldn't do it without some serious machining. So now Im looking at Bret's 50cc 60mph AV10 setup and the cogs are turning.

Re: AV10 Build

just an FYI, the AV10 crank has the same thread and pitch as a puch axle. 10mm something something.

not sure if that will work for you on your stock novi magneto though.

Re: AV10 Build

as far as what all is involved with the conversion, this is what elliot said:

"ur in for alot if u go av10 but don

Re: AV10 Build

Hey if any one can send my some clear pics of the lower spring bracket I can make them! I'll make one for myself if i can get some clear pics of how it works/setup. i'd really like some clear snaps of the doppler spring too, you know all close up full frame and and shit

any one?

Re: AV10 Build

i was planning on doing allens spring mod but i would be down for trying one of what you can make. let me know what happens.

Re: AV10 Build

crackstar its an exact mirror copy of the av7 one, so just make a mirror copy of a usa av7 version.

take ur av7 one hold it up to a mirror thats what it should look like to the T, get it.

Re: AV10 Build

Crackstar, I let Peter borrow an extra doppler spring and he took it to his machinist but it sounds like its not going to be worth making a copy of it, it would end up costing more then importing the doppler.

i have one of those brackets. elliot bought a bunch from france hella long ago and they ended up at the mailbox for about a year. so yeah.

Re: AV10 Build

like an extra? to sell?

Re: AV10 Build

Hey I made three of those nuts to fit points on an AV10 crank. One goes to Davey, and the other two are up for grabs. $25 each +ship. If anyone is interested email me. I can always make more.

Re: AV10 Build

dear jesse,

you rule.

Re: AV10 Build

i just got home and waiting for me like a gift from god (treats) was all of my brand shiny new av10 parts! Pollini AV10 case, Parma crank, Malossi 50CC cylinder, Varplus, and a brand spanking new AV10 nut courtesy of jesse. so stoked. i want to dive right in and start this shit, but i just got home after 12 hours of flying and waiting and flying some more from london, so i will most likely start it in the morning when i'm all fresh.

i think my computer is jealous though, as soon as i opened everything, my cd drive crapped out because something broke in there. which sucks, but AV10!! which rules. tired. awesome.

Re: AV10 Build

Glad to see you got it.

Re: AV10 Build

Oh geez, yeah if you take it to a machinist and try to make an exact copy of course it's going to be expensive. But if you get creative, it will cost you $10.

Re: AV10 Build

first snag, first thing i try. go figure. the crank seals that came with the polini AV10 case seem to big. i'm guessing that i am an idiot. i have tried heating the case and cooling the seals, but that didnt help. i dont want to just bang at them, cause they'll get all bent and fucked. any suggestions? what am i doing wrong here?

Re: AV10 Build

never mind. got em. on to snag number two.

Re: AV10 Build

HEy davey, just my two cents here, but...

you may want to get some calipers and measure your crank's width, and also the interior of the polini cases tourqued together with out a crank in them. divide your differences evenly and find an appropriate shim stock. Use this to help get your crank mounted centrally in the cases. Why? I noticed my crank, once installed sat a little too far to the right (looking down the intake) This in turn left the little end of the con rod sitting to far to the right and not in the center of the wristpin. Call me crazy, but close to 5 bones in hot shit, I am not going to half ass this build.

Re: AV10 Build

good call. thanks, i'll do that. this is why i love moped army.

Re: AV10 Build

I think that is why you find references to using "dummy bearings" in the motobecane manual in the rebuild section.

Re: AV10 Build

i actually have always wondered about that.

Re: AV10 Build

dude, you were totally right. where to find shims that will work? for me to shim things? and stuff.

Re: AV10 Build

feeler guages..... two sets

Re: AV10 Build

any more info on this shimming? not exactly sure where im supposed to be placing shims.

Re: AV10 Build

i never used shims on my polini cases when i put it together 2 years ago.

still rips hard.

Re: AV10 Build

yea, but was the spacing already ok or was it slightly off? the other day i had some cases and crank fit together perfect, first try... no need for shims. other times no matter how many times i try they just wont go together dead even. im curious as to whether or not it is crucial that they are shimmed if the crank is slightly off.

Re: AV10 Build

Davey, the cases probably aren't hot enough. What are you using to heat them up?
