Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

I've been working on tuning my Minarelli, and the max I've managed to top out at is 35 mph. I feel like I should be doing better than that by now. Here is my setup:

Dellorto 15.15, #60 jet

1977mopeds 15mm intake

Port matching on the intake (my first porting)

Mamba exhaust

11 tooth front sprocket

Ignition timing: 50 degrees before TDC

I've tried different jetting and different ignition timing and can't get an improvement with either. I plan to do some real porting at some point but I thought I would get faster than this without that. The acceleration is pretty good, not amazing at low end but really good midrange. The only things I can think, is that I need to double check my compression. What should it be? I haven't looked at my clutch, I dunno if maybe its slipping still at full speed? Or my points are worn out so thats why the timing needs to be so advanced?

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

Yeah you should. BUT.....did you match the exhaust port to the pipe? Did you open the exhaust port up? Did you widen the intake port? What cylinder did you start with? Was it the 20mph one? If so then 35 is hella good.

You are doing better than me. I have a mamba with home made silencer (still loud), borrowed 15mm delorto with 65jet, and 11 tooth front and 42 rear. I just set this up today and am getting low 30's for speed. I am four stroking down hills and will try out a 62jet I have tomorrow. It is very humid here so I'm sure that doesn't help.

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

There's a 20 mph Minarelli cylinder? I thought Minarelli cylinders were all the same except for the case inducted ones. I matched the intake reasonably well (where the intake meets the cylinder), I didn't mess with the exhaust side because I think it is pretty close to correct already. I didn't actually widen the ports on the piston side yet though.

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

How do you figure out the cylinder diff? I know my intake is fairly large. We had a small 12mm intake and compared it to my stock one and it was noticeably different (14mm??). I have not done any porting yet as i will be getting a 70cc polini kit to haul my fat ass around. I would like to mess around with my 50cc for the time being and see what I can accomplish. I made another post asking about the other V1 cylinder heads to see what the difference was. I may try to do a little porting with this setup and see if I can get a few more revs out of it. I know that I need more displacement to make my ped more versitile to my riding conditions but I wouldn't mind seeing what I can do with the 50cc cylinder. I guess if it blows then it blows? All and all, its still a moped!!

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

sounds right if you have the stock gearing...10/42. Molest the exhaust port for more top end aka port timing and set your timing closer to stock...you will have amaizing bottom end...

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

If I set the timing closer to stock it runs like shit, bogging all the time when I open the throttle.

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

go with the polini and never look back. Ps it's a 75cc kit.

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

please elaborate on "molesting the exhaust port"? The pipe I am running is quite larger than the port. I have heard that you need to port out instead of making the ports match as it will fuck up the timing.

Bad visual but you will understand. V is pointing twords the front of the bike.

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

Raise the exhaust port 1mm and widen it 2mm on each side. Drop the intake 1mm and widen....enjoy a few more rpm'z....

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

shit talkin' hippy /

yep, widen it and raise it just a bit, but don't lower it(don't cut towards the case, only towards the head) and you'll see instant results, I raised mine about 1.5mm and widend it to about 60 percent of the bore, then polished it and matched it to the headder, and wow, 40-45 easy

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

Got any pics of this? Can you take some if not?

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

BTW this is all the porting I've done so far, opening up the intake.

Re: Shouldn't I be going faster with this setup?

MORE! Make a transition from that to the port. that's not doing much
