treats super clutch

i got one of them the other day and put it on after i rebuilt my e50 bottom end. i went and started it up and there was no low end at all. i kept thinking it was something to do with jetting so i went through i the range i had and nothing improved. i took the clutch out and took the screws out a little thinking that they might be too tight...nothing. i but back in my old three shoe and off i went. i was just wondering if anyone else got one and if they had problems with it engaging? it was reving super low and not taking forever to get up to speed.

Re: treats super clutch

new springs

Re: treats super clutch

Yeah, you should try switching the springs. Thats the only thing left to try.

Re: treats super clutch

"it was reving super low and not taking forever to get up to speed.

" whats that mean? typo?

anyways if it was reving really low it might have been too engaged, the pads on those are big so if its not sprung hard enough it might have been slowing the motor down at low rpms and not slipping at all, see what happens if u turn the screws in more.

Re: treats super clutch

if your bikes not super dont try this clutch IMO

Re: treats super clutch

and btw u shouldn't need new springs with $100 clutch. just saying.

Re: treats super clutch

Thats what I thought too, but alot of the coils were already touching each other, like it was screwed in too far and starting to press the coils together. It just seems like the springs are too long. Take em out and compare.

Re: treats super clutch

lame

Oh shit. I got one of these. I asked about the need to switch out the springs and Benji told me that the sample batch had stiffer springs than the stock 3 shoe ones.

Re: treats super clutch

I had them turned in pretty far I'll try all the way tomorrow. I was also wondering if the weight of the shoe was something to worry about? the end of the shoe has extra material on there that might make it come out eariler.

Re: treats super clutch

Dumb question, but is how close are the pads to the clutch bell when install?

I would try and tighten all the way and then work my way back out.

Maybe these require a different shim?

Then again I dont have one of these clutches yet, so I can not offer any real life experience help.

Re: treats super clutch

at the portland rally I finally fixed a long standing 3 shoe clutch problem on my old blue magnum. The edge of the shoes were being held out far enough by the springs that the non-pad edge of the shoe was contacting the clutch drum all the time. It felt like the starter clutch was constantly engaged. It would stall at lights because of this. grinded that end of the shoes down and its been working perfectly since. This was a kstar clutch i got from benji a year ago or so. with paz orange springs. I know this is probably totaly unrealted to your problem, just wanted to post that incase anyone else is having this problem.

Re: treats super clutch

Can anyone post a picture of the innards of this thing?

Re: treats super clutch

Well thats worth the cash. There is a certain someone in the Fleet who should get this for Xmas from his old lady

Re: treats super clutch

we are talking about the medium clutch right?

the super, not the super super.

i have the super super. and it is quite excellent. even with the springs it came with.

i tightened the springs all the way down, then backed them out half a turn.

this is recommended for racers.

as for the super clutch. no ideas man. keep messing with it.

other people have has success with it. no question.

thanks for thr info bryan. I shall do.

Re: treats super clutch

nope its the 'super super". elliot i was thinking maybe it was the shims. i the shim in my clutch bell set to .08 like recommended in the puch manual. but it seemed like it might have been a little of a tight fit when i put the clutch in and i had to readjust the clutch cable shorter. bryan the springs that came with it seem great. thought they looked exactly like he stock korado shim distance on your clutch bell. maybe it is different. i ll try as far down on the screws as i can today and see what happens. then il try it in another bike if it doesnt work.

Re: treats super clutch

Yeah, somethings about that clutch worry me. It looks waaaaaay heavier than the other 3 shoe clutches, and because there is so much clutch material, it seems like it would be hard to remove weight. It looks like it is made of the same material as the stock two shoes, which is a BITCH to shave down.

So yeah, they should last longer, and possibly catch harder, but theres no way you are gonna be able to abuse them and make them spin out like you can the cheapo 3 shoes.

Thats just my opinion from looking at a picture. I was slightly concerned about the springs too.

Cant someone just make a moby clutch fit inside an e50. sigh.

Re: treats super clutch

moby clutch... what 4 metal tabs bolted to a spinning disk?

Re: treats super clutch

no hes talken bout the starting clutch elliot

the 2 giant clutch disks bolted to the inside.

Re: treats super clutch

or puegoet I mean. Flynn showed me (what I thought was a clutch) that was gigantic. I do know how those stupid variators work.

I talked to Jeff at Choke about the super super last night after I posted. He said he has one and that he found the correct spring tightness to be at one rotation back from fully screwed in...

Someone let me know if they try this and agree. I have one and want to know how to tune it before I put it in. Fuck pulling that thing over and over.

Re: treats super clutch

I.R.E. Mike Pee /

One rotation? You mean 180 degrees or 360?

Re: treats super clutch

Pablo Puchasso /

One full turn. sorry. 360 degreeeee.

Re: treats super clutch

Pablo Puchasso /

Oh and he was using the springs it came with.

sorry to up an older thread....just wanted to answer the hanging problem.

I was having issues with the super super clutch as well. Gave me no low end whatsoever, even with my gila kit.

I follow Maxmojo's suggestion above of turning the screws all the way in and back it out one turn. Turned my gila into a low end MONSTER.

It works. Treats Super Super clutch is the shit ladies and gentlemen.

Re: treats super clutch

Did you swap out the springs that came with it? I'm about to install my shit soon. Currently rockin a stock Puch 3 shoe and happy with it, but it's going into my GF's Pinto. I hope that I can feel the low end difference when I switch it over to the big boy clutch...

Re: treats super clutch

BootyClap Ninja /

No with the Super Super Clutch I did not have to switch out to Paz Springs.

Works fine and my low end is killer now. Also using Motul Transoil (10w30 Full Synthetic) for extra clutch slippage action :]

Re: treats super clutch

Sweet. I got some Paz springs that are going into it and I'm already rockin the Motul Transoil. Can't wait... The springs that come with it look shitty so I picked up some Paz springs right after I got it out of the box.
