settle up old (1960s style) moby throttle unit

ive got a '62 montgomery ward riverside moped, which is a mobylette with an av88 in everything but name. the unusual thing about this bike is that the throttle unit serves as both the decomp AND the throttle. you twist it forward for decomp, and back for throttle. anyhow, not that ive taken it apart, i absolutely cannot get it to work correctly.

does anyone have either a link to or copy of the manual, or can anyone explain how to set this up?

Re: settle up old (1960s style) moby throttle unit

The decompression cable goes in the front adjuster (14903) and the throttle cable goes in the hole behind that. There are two slides in the throttle (18460) and (18459). The throttle tube (18458) has an angled slot in it which slide (18459) fits into and follows. When you twist the throttle forward slide 18459 moves to the left pushing slide 18460 outward (left) and puts tension on the decompression cable thus engaging it. When you twist the cable backwards (towards rider) slide 18459 moves to the right putting tension on the throttle cable and raising the carburetor slide. That is at least how I think it works by looking at its operation.

Hope that helps.

what i guess i dont really understand is how tension is put on the decomp cable by pushing the slide to the left?

also, if you have a link to a complete manual for this bike, i would be indebted.
