Calling out A55 Tuners!

Anyone notice their bikes lacking a top end? we should be able to wind the piss out of these engines just like any others.

since ive run my kit, ive felt no top end power increase, or major top speeds.

i go to advance my timing, and i find some external pick-up outside the flywheel that reads a raised section of steel between Top dead center.the pickup is directly connected to the CDI box, and kills the spark when removed, also the stater is the same as the A35, but a different back plate, aka up-side down.

so first I try advancing the timing by rotating the stator, no dice. try removing the external pickup, no spark. hook a timing light up to my Tomos, run it after finding TDC and find this.

low RPMs the Timing is Auto-Advanced by the CDI, But At Higher RPMs the Ignition becomes retarded by the CDI.

we have no control over the timing of a A55. and in theory this CDI is Robbing us of RPMS and Crucual Power at the top end of our game.

so next, i ran jumper wires off a old a35 CDI to my bike, and it got spark, but none-the-less ran backwards because of the new postition of the Stater. kept messing the the stater until it ran super advanced(the stater cant be put in the original position like in A35's. after that i got rained on and gave up on my crusade against Rev limiters.

going to transplant a whole Ignition sytem ASAP and report my findings, please help me figure this bad-boy out. i beleive, and will be documenting proof as soon as i get the chance that this is the rev limiter upon the new A55 engine.

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

sick, let us know this is very interesting/ important!!!

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

If you can do this i will be impressed, and you will be able to get tons of speed off your ped to.

When your done post a how to id be willing to give it a shot on my street

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

holy crap im sure these things will be able to do some sick speeds, if what you are saying is true

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

hows the prgress

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

very very interesting.

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

The A35 ignitions have auto retard tooo!!...but way more more user friendly...the a55 pick-up gets in the way of BIG sprocket anyway... change the hole thing to A35...a must for high-ballin

Shaw;

My bike 07 sprint is ported case and matched (Devin) with a 26 frnt tooth and 22rear and I'm experiencing the top out as well at abt 45 mph. so are you recmmding removing the whole cdi on the a55 and exchanging it for the a35 cdi? I know it's limited as well but i heard (as you might be referencing to) that it's a simple wire that you cut out. oR DO YOU RECMND GETTING A CDI FROM A DIRTBIKE. Me and Devin from motion left are trying to evaluate the best way to get this to a 55-62 mph and my current miles are true gps'd miles. Would appreciate your input as I know you're hitting these speeds with your tomos aiero. Thanx

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

There are a lot of cheap cdi black boxes you can try out. I wonder if you could somehow wire the stock one backwards so it advances with RPM, wouldn' that be a treat

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

hmmm this fucking blows. any other 50cc 2 stroke 12v cdi box should work right? what about one from a big name 2 stroke dirtbike? i dont want a little black box fucking with my bike.

god damnit i just bought a brand new cdi box from tomos too.

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

perhaps aprilia has a box that will work

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

i'd be looking at the chineese pocketbike stuff if i were youse guys.

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

I'm going to take the cdi off and take a look at it. it's def limiting the topend.

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

Lemme know what you come up with, I've got my A55 maxed out at 37mph right now without the big bore kit, just an exhaust and air filter

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

Tomos sells A35 stator and mag/rotor for 120$ the coil is 50$ regulator 30$...200$...not to bad for 12v bright lites that hardly ever burn out...ability to run 31 tooth front sprocket...and timing you can adjust...someone needs to find that post way back about using a car timing light to set timing(limited computer skills) ...Im to tired to go through it now-sleepy- but I will if needed...if you find it post it on this thread...That Arciero was paced at 62mph today on a wide open PCH blast..Flat ground....66+ on some of the dips...not possible without A35 igniton setup 21mm carb and 31-20 gear on a 17"wheel...50cc A35(modified) stock cylinder with over 3.000 hard miles on it...funnest bike

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

If that is with stock gears you should go with a 22 tooth rear sprocket to reach 45 mph. A55 can reach 8000 to 8500 rpm. Some people are reaching 51.5 mph confirmed on GPS.

PS- mopedwhisper was his old name, so look at those posts.

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

05...wow that was awhile ago...still runnin that same motor, just more mods

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

sabet heres the points, idk if ill help out, its 12v and worht a try for $20 shipped... nvm make it $15 cause id liek to see if it works. lmk

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

Go all the way back to an A35 points and condensor flywheel and stator. Completely do away with the CDI. You will go no faster. You are beating a dead horse.

Calling out A55 Tuners!

You guys who are going for high RPM's with A55's . . . do you get engine vibration? I'd like to know what you're seeing, and if you know any ways to eliminate it. Mine sometimes runs very smooth, and sometimes runs with severe vibration.

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

i wouldnt say i got a lot of vibration but it on a stock a55 going downhill it like tops out at 45 and and starts to cut out i would def do almost anything to make it stop doing that

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

Bruce Edwards /

Check out : http://vibrationmounts.com/ That's how I'm solving the A55 engine vibration issue,

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

My a35 sprint used to get gnarly vibration. It was in part because I put lower bars and a kit on it. It was pretty bad, so I filled the bars with silicone caulking and it has helped out quite a bit.

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

I would'nt bother with the points, unless your not using the points set-up. TRUST ME, its complete junk over 35 mph. The points start floating. And it burns threw points/condenser very fast.

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

maby a puch cdi?

Re: Calling out A55 Tuners!

Sometimes that bad vibe is caused by the clutch starting to go...one of the corks rips off causing the clutch to load to oneside and become unbalanced...1st gear clutch nut likes too come loose and cause vibration too...broken "J" spring causes a bad chatter shifting from 1st to 2nd...Points is OK but at high rpm's the thing will blow light bulbs...(12v regulator?)..and you can't run the big gear...A35 cdi has been trouble free for 3 years runnin at 12,000+ rpm all the time... bolts right on PUCH's tooo
