speed kit for Yamaha towny?

What 70cc kit would fit in my Yamaha MJ50 Towny? Or is there a larger motor that I would be able to "drop in"? I would like for it to go around 40-45mph. Im 210lbs and it goes about 26mph against the wind and does 30 when your not fighting the wind so much. Also, would this kit give me better off the line acceleration? What would be some upgrades that I can do to this besides the engine that will be affordable? What would you guys recommend I do? Im new to mopeds by the way and this is my first one. Im learning about how to fix it myself. I would also like any tips if you guys have any. Thanks :)

Re: speed kit for Yamaha towny?

the towny has the same motor as the qt50, with the exception of the towny being a two speed while the qt50 is a single speed. that being said, you can put the 60cc top end from a yt60 or yf60 on your towny. jemco makes an expansion chamber exhaust. boyesen makes reeds. search the performance section for qt50 stuff.

Re: speed kit for Yamaha towny?

wow with Qt;s doing like 40 i wonder what a towny can do

Re: speed kit for Yamaha towny?

I think the qt50 record is 62mph. I don't think a towny will go much faster, but it might get to top speed faster.

Re: speed kit for Yamaha towny?

hot damn true but you can gear higher with a 2 speed

Re: speed kit for Yamaha towny?

Ok so if I got the yt60 top end I would need to get a new piston and the gaskets as well right? also would i have to give it time to break in? or because the engine is old except for the top end it will be ok?

Re: speed kit for Yamaha towny?

Putting a new top end on an old bottom end is fine. If it's a new piston and cylinder you will definitely need to break it in.
