My wheels are going to explode and kill me. Who does sealed bearing conversion?
If you do the proper maintenance on the wheel bearings, loose bearings and races can work very well. Sealed bearings just have thin caps on them to keep the grease contained, but they can age as well.
Yeah I agree cup and cone sucks.. it's not all that hard to convert most wheels though.
I've packed and repacked. Cups are shot and figured I'd upgrade, but I've got no lathe. Who can do this? Anybody?
Jason, Ryan and I are looking into it.
I've heard Motomatic does sealed bearing conversions.
Contact Myron's Mopeds in California. I got sealed bearings in my snowflakes and they rock.
MOTOMATIC!!!
In case you decide to convert the rear wheel uses radial BB's the front conical BB's no exception.
I don't remember who did it, but somebody posted about using standard bearings and a grade 8 US standard long shank bolt to replace the bearings and axle. The cups measure out to a weird metric measurement, but were right on for a US standard measurement. Metric bearings cost less than standard, but bearings with a US standard OD and metric ID are super duper expensive.
No, they look different, are those the motomatic ones?
i hate a cup and cone, sealed for life.
Cup and cone bearings rock, for one reason: you can service them.
Just think about the tools you use to work on the two types of bearings. Cup and cone bearings can be maintained for years using two wrenches and some grease. Sealed bearings are "serviced" with a bearing puller - pulled and replaced.
Sure, buy the conversion kit and some tasty piece of mind - especially if your cups are shot. Remember, though, that cup and cone bearings are a Very Good Thing - they're what keep your ped on the road until you save up for new parts.
i got no beef with cup n cone.
sealed is great too.
Alright who can hook me up with Motomatic?
seek out rafter's number, check his profile
are your wheels spoke or mags? if spoke, are the hubs steel or alum?
Alumflakes!
