E50 Origin Question!

I am an E50! I have a #11 high torque cylinder and a 14mm intake. I have brass screws in my clutch cover, and a stock 3 shoe clutch. I do not have a roller bushing in my crank. I do have a single ring piston. What year am I and where did I come from?

Re: E50 Origin Question!

only single ring puchs i know of are the korado. this is very interesting. tell us!

Re: E50 Origin Question!

I've heard a tale that Kickstart Magnum X motors had single rings, but mine did not. This one is not from a magnum X. I have no idea where its from, I bought it from a motorcycle yard just sitting there.

Oh yeah, it also had a black plastic flywheel cover, which made me think it was something different, the only other E50 I've had with that cover had a 3 shoe and roller crank.

I'll snap some pictures of the piston, it looks a like stock, but has some odd stampings on the dome.

Re: E50 Origin Question!

An 86? Three shoe clutch and black stator cover... Not sure about that single ring unless it has a korado top end on it...

Re: E50 Origin Question!

I was sure it was an 86 because of those things, and the condenser is a newer plastic cap screw on wire type, not the old solder jobbers. However, I know this isn't a Korado jug, it is Maxi size, so maybe someone put a single ring piston in it?

Re: E50 Origin Question!

there are 2 types of 3 shoe clutches big shoe and small shoe, the small shoe one looks like 3 2 shoe arms put onto a 3 shoe plate (whitch can easily be done with slight modification)

also not to derail this thread but you can put 2 shoe clutch shoes on in either direction on a 2 shoe plate...

From a Puch AD. That's my guess. Don't know the year though.

no roller bushing? not korado, not an 86 (86's had roller bushings, my za50 does)

probably not an AD either

Re: E50 Origin Question!

what does it have in place of roller bearings on the crank?

oops! did NOT mean to sound like a jerk. sorry.

PS i have once seen a single ring puch piston. jesse van fleet has one in his bike. he had a 1980 burgondy maxi.

Re: E50 Origin Question!

LEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: E50 Origin Question!

My 86 maxi came stock with a 3 shoe and a roller bearing and a 2 ring piston just to let you know

Re: E50 Origin Question!

Here are some pictures. It is a normal stock 3 shoe with blue springs, not the odd kind that you described. The ports look pretty decent sized, I wonder how it will run.

wierd.

the blue spring ones came on korados.

Re: E50 Origin Question!

what does it say o the top of the piston?

Re: E50 Origin Question!

I tried to take a good picture, but it has the exhaust arrow and what looks like the number "3" but it has been hit on something, and then it also says "D" and 1734

Re: E50 Origin Question!

wow, yeah thats for sure a puch piston not a random swap in. the korado single rings look very differnt than that and have boost ports so im at a total loss. never seen or heard of that till this thread man.

id say it would be like a zeta cylinder or something, but i can clearly see the puch stamp.

Re: E50 Origin Question!

My sentiments exactly, I figured it was an old school 50cc kit, but it is clearly marked PUCH. I should have this engine together again in a few days and we will see how well it does!

Re: E50 Origin Question!

Those transfers look large for a stock #11 jug. Maybe the motor is from an Eton four wheeler. I hear they use a motor exactly like an E50.

Re: E50 Origin Question!

i have one of those pistons at home, i

ll check i t tonight, maybe an aftermarket replacement piston

Re: E50 Origin Question!

Alright, split the case and it's even more confusing. It's a 3 bearing case (which I've seen) but the teeth on the clutch housing and main gear are cut backwards from the normal style. The mystery continues!

Re: E50 Origin Question!

sounds like a korado bottom end (pre-cdi) with some wierdo top end.

I dont think the top and bottom ends are from the same bike.

Re: E50 Origin Question!

i had a free spirit with a single ring piston, not sure if it was the original engine, but it was DEF not a korado, i may still have the piston somewhere to photograph

i thought only the korados had the reversed gear teeth and the blue springed 3 shoes though.

Re: E50 Origin Question!

I have the same thing on my 86' Cobra. Single ring, roller bearing. Not sure about the clutch yet.
