pretty stoked on my new gilardoni last nights rode with other mopeds and was doing about 50 mph? with 15x 45 gearing!
B & R prototype: Matches a 21 dellorto mount perfect This will add some speed for sure. did a simple volume test and its about a 1/3 less then standard intakes! i think i can get it to 1/2 with shortening the pipe. matched the reed stuffer and intake for a direct shot to the reeds for maximum velocity and the least amount of turbulence. where did u get the stuffer, rafter had one too.
my stuffer came with the malossi vuton reeds.
it didnt match up to the doppler intake so i am not using it.
There are 2 aftermarket Malossi Reed Cages both have have stuffers. I think spending the $$ on the "Veton" reeds is a good investment with better sealing technology for the reeds and a better stuffer. If i was loaded i would get a v force
Between the carb and the reeds you want as little volume as possible thats the point of the stuffer and custom intake for people that don't know plus better flow
the custom intake would be nice.
right now ive got the doppler intake with 2 machined risers so it clears the head (2 speed, fuck an e50)
So a low-volume intake performs better on reed-valve kits? That's kickass, but why is that? Or is it something I should look up in Jennings or Bell?

so the 21mm carb will bolt right up or do u need the rubber coupler?

@coco it's usually ok to use any rubber 3/4 ? (i think) flexible hose to mount these things as long as it's just mounting and not extending it. Gas doesn't really come in contact with it.
@FB What sort of intake could blow this way?? you want the least resistance, as little volume as possible, nice mounting position and matching sizes. a very short rectangular/circular sloping funnel with Minimal volume thats gold for a mikuni would be very impressive though! and w/ boost bottle!!
This does all that without being expensive. I've seen almost every intake for the gila from the dutch and sweeds. and they're basically this design half the time with a boost bottle atachment.

Any reason why you ran Dellorto over Mikuni?
i already had a dellorto, when the time comes i will probably get a mikuni but it's going to be a really good setup with this intake.
squids and birds have both had good luck with longer intakes. Rafter told me hey tested some side by side and the longer intakes were more responsive? Makes no sense to me, but I suppose the results are there. Rafter had a ridiculiously long one that performed well at one point.
I have never read Jennings, but I have read bell, and I think intake angles are much more important than length. Making sure the fuel flow is in the direct path of your reeds/intake portis key. Making sure the fuel is going directly in, not shooting torwars the walls of your reeds or inyae port.
How do you do that, Tommy? Just a really broad, slopingly (not a word) curved intake, or what?
Tommy thats for direct piston port right? those need a tuned length because it kind works like a pipe, there is a reverb that travels up the intake and it's good to have a tuned length. As far as I understand in reading and by examples you want a the carb right above the reeds, of course with the least amount of resistance and etc... look how good the malossi/polini 4p works, ya know

I would say from what I have learned from shaw (who has read bell and jennings multiple times) that those intakes are all terribble examples of how an intake should work. Here are some drawings I made in 10 seconds each. Sorry for how horrid looking they are.

Its all about fuel flow, and making the fuel be able to flow as fast as possible, if the gas has to change directions and hit blunt edges it wont flow as fast as it could.
This is just what i picked up from reading bell and talking to shaw a lot.

I've also seen shaw make longer intakes for graham's polini... as long as the intake on my metra,,, so maybe there is something to a short intake and reed, and maybe there isn't... graham how did it work out for you?

hmm... now that i think about it just reading about this wont tell you everything, there will be a reverb on reed intake also just not as severe. Because the reeds close when there's a mixture going down the tube because of the compression stroke before the transfers are open. It would be nice to know mathematically a tuned length for all the kit intakes.
But Its not that easy to find the right size pipe that are bendable and you can weld so i think this one will be pretty good:

purple - intake and reverb cause eddies actually there would be lots of eddies everywhere for a time period

because honestly, I trust doppler over pretty much anyone when it comes to performance
also the curved intake is better than a straight one, because the returning pulse is not headed straight towards the incoming pulse. if that makes sense.
