Bing 15mm Intake...

1977 Mopeds sent me a 15mm intake for my Maxi and I'm wondering if they sent me the wrong piece? It fits into the neck of the carb fine and the bolt match-up to the engine block is correct - however, the carb sits way to low and is resting on the engine block instead of being positioned with proper clearance. Curiously, the bottom flange (inside of intake tube) was machined to a rectangular configuration instead of matching the intake port (which is round). Additionally, this position will not allow me to mount the stock air cleaner back into it's hole on the frame.

I have a 1979 Puch Maxi II. The carb has already been upgraded to Bing 15mm.

Thanks for your help!

Steve.

The 2 speeds have intakes which are taller to accommodate the carb because the motor has casing in the way. The earlier puch cylinders have rectangular intake ports, or you could just open yours up to match the intake. You are going to need a spacer to make that manifold work. I think mopedshop sells one, but its not very cheap.

Re: Bing 15mm Intake...

za50s do have longer intake manifolds than the e50's. i bought a 14mm intake for a za50 from mike rafter. contact him to see if he has any 15mm intakes.

Re: Bing 15mm Intake...

How do I get in touch with Mike?

I'm trying to do the same thing. I bought a 15mm from 1977 and it cracked. I also have a 2 speed puch

Bing 15mm Intake...

Weird. I picked up a bored out intake with the same issue.

Re: Bing 15mm Intake...

Yall have two speeds and those after markets only fit the one speeds.

Re: Bing 15mm Intake...

i've seen people grind the case down to make it fit....

or you can be like me and just let the carb sit tilted a little... i put the same aftermarket 15mm intake on my za50... no problems.

Re: Bing 15mm Intake...

Yeah, grind the nut thing off the bottom of the bowl, or grind a little off of the case. They say you can grind plenty off on those za50s.

Re: Bing 15mm Intake...

I'm a little confused on what this 15mm intake is going to get me. The bike came with a 12mm bing and what i thought must be a 12mm intake.

I measured the opening of the 15mm intake I got from 1977moped and it measures 15mm (round) exactly on the end that connects to the carb. The other end is rectangular and larger. (what that gets you? the case has a round hole)

The intake that came with the bike also measures 15mm on both ends and they both have round openings. I noticed there's a '14' raised in the casting. Don't know how I never noticed that before. So this must be a 14mm intake. Why it mesures to 15mm I dont know, The ID and the OD of the round holes look the same between the intakes.

I haven't had much time to fuck with this yet to be honest (remodeling house) but I'm gonna just try and use the old intake with the 14 written on it and put my new 15mm carb on it. I got this sweet looking paper/screen/chromed out air filter that I'm dying to see what it does for me.
