Performance exhaust for 1979 Garelli SSP LTD

I have a 1979 Garelli Super Sport LTD top tank moped and would like to boost its performance. Right now it runs at around 26mph it used to get 30 at least. I am completely new to this subject and would like some advice if possible. What kind performance exhaust would be compatible with this bike? Or does every new exhaust require special modification? And it has a jet #50 installed.. Would a new jet improve its performance.. and if so what size, and where can I buy it? Thanks for your help!!

Regardless of which speed rating your motor is, you should be able to get +30MPH on that Garelli. Hopefully you have a 32 or 36 tooth rear sprocket already.

-Remove the air tubes in the airbox or upgrade to a better filter

-upjet to 54 or 56

-advance your timing

-drill a few 1/4" holes in the exhaust baffle

-make a thinner head gasket tpo up your compression

You could spend money on a pipe if you want to, but I wouldn't.

Thanks for your help... any suggestions on better air filters? And, can I buy a differant jet at a local motorcycle shop or do I have to order it online?? And also, if I opt for a performance exhaust does anyone know if there's one that will fit my Garelli without modification?

the only exhaust made for a garelli was gianelli i believe? otherwise you could always mount something to the stock header..easiest would be a biturbo i guess..but it robs you take off.

It will help a little bit but its much better to get a puch pipe and have it cut and re-welding to fit the garelli.

Estoril!
