bummer on "performance" V1 head.

So I ordered a Motori Minarelli V1 head that was originally slated for a 50cc indian, the ones with the big fins and all. I was excited to get it today only to be dissapointed that it will not work. The bore is too small in diameter and the stud spacing is different. Is it worth my time to weld up the holes and machine it out, or is it better to just sell it off. Should I look for a head off a 70cc? Its brand new.... pouty now :( There are some pics included.

That stinks. I need one for my 80 project.

Re: bummer on "performance" V1 head.

Is it one form the 70cc's that we want? This one is marked 24-38 50ss, look at the one on ebay...?

This performance head... well Higher Compression Head from the factory. It has angle plug to shoot the fire at the exhaust port. Nice idea on the Italians.

looks like our head, but i asked the seller to measure the stud spacing before i bought so i could confirm it fit.

iirc the head you all want is off a minarelli C70 or some such similar 70cc engine.

live and learn.

Re: bummer on "performance" V1 head.

I got one of those heads with my Motomarina. Tried it with my Gadabout 75cc Polini and Mamba, and was underwelmed... killed the powerband.

Re: bummer on "performance" V1 head.

the 70cc head has a little larger volume than the stock head, so you need to take a little off the top of the cylinder accordingly. where it shines is that it has a squish band, when you machine the cylinder so the piston comes up to the band as it should, you'll see the performance come back much better.
