Anybody Modded a Tecno Estoril?

 GotSpark /

(this is for the puch estoril)

so just from looking around, ive seen brannano say they have a funnel shaped restrictor? where would that be located?

also hear they have a "ceiling" (maybe due to the long header?) which im pretty sure ive experienced.

ive been pondering cutting mine up to see if i cant squeez out some higher RPM's out of it.

because it seems like it tops out at relatively low RPM's

maybe taking some header out?

removing this mysterious restrictor?

ANY advice with modifying exhausts would be appreciated.

Read some literature first, otherwise you will do more bad than good. You will have pipes that fight with your motor rather than improve it. I say leave pipe building to the experts but then again why not if you have the time? I know I don't have time for it.

Re: Anybody Modded a Tecno Estoril?

you're correct that it tops out at relatively low rpm because of the length of the header, but that's the point of the pipe - it's designed as a low end pipe. the estoril motor gp race course had vicious turns and grades . . . the estoril pipe is called that because it boosts the rpm range you'd be in a lot on the estoril race course. so you could hack that pipe up to be a top-end booster, but why? if you offer it in trade on buy/sell, i'm sure you could swap it for a proma gp or a 6p or something, and then you'd have a pipe that was tuned specifically for the power band you're aiming for, not just a hack-job that does the trick. just my $.02.

yeah in any other case, i probably would.

but the thing is ive tried quite a few other "top" end pipes with my kit (70cc athena)

with no luck at all

I think ive tried the tecno boss, homoet 7p, or rafter 7p, tecno bullet, and I had a proma circuit that actually pulled harder than my estoril and topped out at around the same speed.

and with the top end pipes it just boggs out really bad and doesnt go past 25.

i get the feeling that my kit really doesnt like the higher rpm pipes, even though i have no idea why because in the wiki its rated as a really fast kit.

and maybe i can play with it and tune my pipe for how i want it to perform

instead of trying to trade or sell it and buying a new one and crossing my fingers and hopping that it works.

plus i think it wold be cool to try to modify and pipe and maybe gain some knowlage

go ahead and do it, only thing will go wrong is if it works worse than it did before. just read a bit then chop it up how you want. sounds like a cool project

Re: Anybody Modded a Tecno Estoril?

i believe there is a LOT you can read about pipes and their shapes and sizes and all sorts of shit, instead of guessing i think you can actually make a directed decision if you do enough looking around.

that being said, how heavy are you tuning the carb and set up for each pipe change? if you are bogging with a top end pipe re-jet, tune tune tune, and get it to blast. a fast ass pipe that you have a jet that is too big with will still eat your top speed.

my timing was a bit off and i had a jet size too big and i used to hit a big RPM wall... 4 stroke and crap just as i was cruising into my top speed....

Re: Anybody Modded a Tecno Estoril?

it's more the restrictor than the header that limits the rpm. the restrictor is a wide angle dish and perforated tube in the end of the expansion chamber, you can see the three tack welds from the outside. according to jennings, a wide angle cone like that gives more punch to the peak of the powerband, but cuts it out after the peak, vs a longer, smaller angle cone, like the outside cone once the restrictor is removed, which will give less peak power while stretching the powerband out higher past the peak.

you can learn about pipe design in Jennings two stroke tuner's handbook here: http://www.mopedarmy.com/wiki/Category:Performance_Tuning

Re: Anybody Modded a Tecno Estoril?

shaw runs modded estorils with dirt bike baffles, i don't know any details tho.
