upside down stator WTF?

So I've had my NVT Easy Rider that has a Franco Morini MO1 for well over six months now and I figured "hey why not check the gap on my points? I have the Haynes manual, how hard could it be?"

It's upside down. Is this bad? How is it running? Why is there no marks on the flywheel telling me where BTDC and TDC are? Why are there only two openings to access the points instead of three (like on the photo)? Why, after removing the Cylinder head to find TDC, can I still not see the gap? After spending god knows how long peering through those two openings to try and see a gap, I gave up.

This all started because my moped was acting really weird today. Going 5-10MPH slower and made two sharp popping noises on the way home (backfiring?) any ideas?

Re: upside down stator WTF?

you removed the head to find tdc?

Re: upside down stator WTF?

yes.

Re: upside down stator WTF?

that's when the piston is fully extended right?

Re: upside down stator WTF?

haha

i have an EZ Rider too... crazy, mines the only one i've ever seen. if you ever need anything.. its a parts bike.

Easier way to find TDC: remove spark plug, stick screwdriver in hole, rotate flywheel to move piston. Bam, TDC miraculously appears. No need to remove the head.

Re: upside down stator WTF?

Graham, how much you want for the stator plate off your EZ rider?

Re: upside down stator WTF?

yeah I guess that is easier, I wanted to check it out though to see what was up with it. So upside down stator is fine??? I'd be interested in a lot of parts

Re: upside down stator WTF?

bump. Do I just leave it? has anyone ever run into this before?

Re: upside down stator WTF?

Don't fix what ain't broke.
