Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

I had help from a friend with a MIG welder, but today i modded my stock batavus starflite hs by welding a techno boss performance pipe onto the existing starflite VA header, which i cut down to just above the bend.

performance has increased ENORMOUSLY, and according to my sketchy speedo i can now hit 37/38 on totally flat ground. I seem to have lost a tiny bit on low end (this bike was a dog to being with), but acceleration and incredibly smooth now, and it just goes so much faster than before.

The one tricky part about this is accommodating the right pedal, as the larger expansion chamber gets in the way. to do this, we sawed off the end of an extra crank and welded it to the existing one, which gave just enough clearance.

credit where credit is due: this technique was imparted to me by MA user john mahoney break>

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

fix that janky mounting or you wont go fast for very long.

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

i know. i didnt have time. its actually surprisingly secure, but im going to modify the existing one soon. it was getting dark, and i had a long ride back, so i just used a hose clamp.

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

Yeah I was wondering about the mount.

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

this man shows his work on his ped and the first comments are "constructive criticism" sheesh

jay awesome looking ped, that pipe looks awesome on there

what other mods have you done it any, if you haven't i recommend 1 15mm intake if you can find one, or have one made, so you can hook up a Dellorto 15:15 carb and gain a lot more mph and you can hook up a high flow air filter and jet correctly, that should get back your low end plus some

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

so it can be done thx that looks sweet

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

A 37/38mph m48! Sounds impressive, care to make a video showing off this awesome speed?

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

when we did this to john's bike he borrowed my gps and it was hitting 41mph.

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

vic what other mods did he have?

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

hes got a ported cylinder and a dell'orto carb

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

so how many mph he gain, 3, 4?

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

12

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

with the dellorto and porting he was only doing 25 mph and the pipe added 12? or all together added 12, and if you mill the head i guarantee a power increase

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

is the thing atleast screaming at top speed?

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

his was running terribly before porting/carb/exhaust. it was in the 25-30 range. but vic can probably tell you as he aw the before/after, apparently

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

sucks noticeably on big hills, though. im going to have to sacrifice some top end and get a larger rear sprocket.

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

Yeah, so:

My setup hits 41 on gps,

Running a 15.15 dellorto running a 70 jet w/o air filter (trying to find high flow for SHA)

Custom intake (from Devin at MLM ofcourse)

Ported Cylinder (By Devin)

Puch Techno Boss welded to a Stock Starflite Header (By the Vic, who is the bomb)

A milled head & performance reeds are on the way (from my main man Devin).

Low end has gotten a lot better with some tuning but still definitely lacking, obv hoping reads and milled head will bump me up in that department. Around 19mph the pipe hits its powerband and screams. Performance is way better then I hoped for.

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

Huge thanks go to Vic & Devin. I've had this plan for years but never made enough friends or worked enough hours to put it into action. Thanks so much guys!

I think the cool thing about this is that when i recommended just adding the pipe mod to Jay's bike he saw huge improvement with an otherwise stock setup. Goes to show that the Boss is a good improvement over the 2 piece Biturbo standard for Bats. Just need to do some welding and careful measuring.

Id be interested to see someone try doing this with other performance pipes and the result.

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

with the milled head and reeds you should see 45+, good to hear your making some power, for a little extra run a thicker base gasket, or 2 of em, (my little secret mod)

Re: Batavus exhaust mod = 37/38mph

Way to make the best looking bikes go fast!
