For some reason this shouldn't work

I just don't know the reason...

"$33. Tachometer":http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=SUM%2DG2870&view=1&N=700+150+4294815748+400304+4294891600+

Red and orange go to power, black to ground, white to the headlight switch

Green goes to the negative terminal on the coil or the tach terminal on the distributor

Something tells me that even if I had 12v worth of batteries in a box this wouldn't work. Can any one tell me why?

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

is this a riddle?

not a riddle. just seems to cheap and easy to work or be "adaptable" to a moped

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

yeah most car/motorcycle parts or accesories are hard to install or need something extra to run.

i have found it is almost a gaurentee

maybe the question is, will this actually pick up a signal if attached to my moped coil?

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

not designed to read for a single cylinder. it'll have a switch on the back to select 4, 6, or 8 cylinder.

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

yep there you go.

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

yeah u need a tach designed with a 1cylinder in mind

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

couldn't i multiply the reading by 4?

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

Tiny tach is only a couple bucks more and works great. check them out.

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

It'll work, it'll be slow and it won't be very accurate I don't think but the needle will move and it'll look cool ;).

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

Most of these tachs are designed for multi-cylinder 4-stroke engines, meaning it won't work that well on your single cylinder 2-stroke.

If you can set it to 2-cylinder 4-stroke, it will work. As those would spark just as many times as a single cylinder 2-stroke, but otherwise you'd just be screwed with a messed up tach.

Get a Tiny Tach or a KOSO or something, those are designed to run on 2-strokes.

Ah Ha! is that one of yours or something you found?

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

or dish out the big bucks for one (meaning like 130 dollars) that goes to 14000 rpm i think and is built for a 2 stroke search my posts on general

Re: For some reason this shouldn't work

you'll have to divide the number by 2 going from a four stroke 4 cylinder, but it will work. the only problem is, there is no reason to have a moped tach that only goes to 6k rpm

that koso stuff, thats what i want
