Getting the most out of my Metra 80

Ok so here is the setup:

e50

Metra 80

19 Dellorto

Estoril

18/38

57.4 mph GPS

So, what is the deal with bigger carbs? Does a huge carb really increase hp, thus increase top speed? I know I can get more than 57 mph out of this setup, but right now that is it.

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

different pipe?

Estoril is pretty much all low and mid-range. Try tossing on a simo or a 6 or 8p even...

I would be willing to bet that you're restricted at your pipe.

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

estorils, despite the good midrange, are screamers, especially on a bigger cylinder. the porting and displacement will have a huge effect on the characteristics of the pipe, estorils run fast on big cylinders. A simonini or big homo would definitely get you more top end.

the carbureation approaches a point of diminishing returns, going from 19-24 wont make you much faster without super aggressive porting, especially on the intake side of a piston-port cylinder. I'm sure tommy's 70 mph bike (if its anything like the pictures i've seen of his metra 65 jug) is complete swiss cheese. I dont think a stock ported mk80 would flow a 24 very well at all, but all those west coast guys love to over carbureate... they are the ones going 60-70, so i guess i cant argue.

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

Ok, that is what i thought about carbs. So, now the hunt for a good pipe. I might have a line on a simonini.

Treats has the simo's if your looking.

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

Estoril is great on 65 metra, but it really restricts a powerful 80 metra. About a month before k-zoo last year, on the bike that won the drag race, shaw was blasting down pch with a slightly modded estoril. I was behind him when suddenly the back of the can blew out and he instantly took off about 5 mph faster. It was nuts. The motor was making so much power it popped the back of the can off, and you saw how much it was holding him back.

LOL...wow great story Tommy.

fucking insane.

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

They have a really weird restrictor in them. It's kind of a funnel looking thing. Take it out! Seriously, chop the back end off the pipe and rip that fucker out. Totally worth it.

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

Yup, smells like truth. Simo for immediate power.

Please use 21mm carb at least.

65 metra

21mm del 82 jet

18/40

6P

58MPH wide open for days

damn...almost at the 1mph per cc mark.

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

Fuck - that story about Shaw is fucking awesome, Tommy.

Hmmm.....maybe a Simonini is in my future.

On an entirely different note, Andy claims that he has made the home made pipe to end all home mades. He's calling it the burrito pipe. It's on a totally stock PA50II. He ported it a little, opened the exhaust as much as he could, and thinks he's close to 50. No changing the carb, jetting, or whatever. Stock, 49cc piston, head all that.

I have yet to see it....but I really want to. Andy has been known to make crazy, dumb looking shit that goes fast as hell.

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

get Andy to post this about the pa50 on here! that sounds bloody awesome.

tell me everything you know haha...

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

Ok, so I am def going to be getting a different pipe, and probably a bigger carb. Thanks!

the voice of reason strikes again. . . curses!

Re: Getting the most out of my Metra 80

OK I get the pipe thing. I've got to get a better pipe. Check

So what is the deal with the carbs? Will there be a significant gain in performance with a 21mm? Truth be told, this is my first build and I jumped in with both feet and was expecting it would have better performance. I probably erred on the side of caution.

actually harold its pretty well known you can throw on a proma pipe on a hobbit and not have to change jets.

i think thats for the ones that came with the 82 jets. hobbits are nice like that
